Canes win 5-2

Goal 1 - Noesen (from Dzingel & Coghlan)

Goal 2 - Stepan (Unassisted)

Goal 3 - Robidas (from LaBate & Rees)

Goal 4 - Ponomarev (from Lajoie & Chatfield)

Goal 5 - Drury (from de Haan & Martinook)

13 of the 18 skaters recorded a point and Raanta looked really sharp. Sawchenko was also solid though his movements are a little all over the place at times, nonetheless, he’ll make a good tandem with Kochetkov in Chicago.

I’m willing to give Bear a few more preseason games but as of right now I’m 100% in the camp of trading him before the season starts.

Coghlan is obviously much better and I prefer Chatfield over Bear as well.

I’m all for shipping him somewhere four a third or fourth round pick and being done with it.

Slavin - Burns

Skjei - Pesce

de Haan - Coghlan

Chatfield

Depth - Dronov, Lajoie

Chatfield is a much much better skater than Bear as well....

Bear is 7th or 8th even.

I just got tickets to the outdoor game, Patches should be back by then.

Actually noticed that last night as well, there was a sequence where Chatfield was exiting the d-zone last night and he was moving. On multiple circumstances I watched Bear and he looked stuck in mud.

Bear isn't particularly good at anything, which isn't good for a guy who is average to below average at everything (to make up for that he would need to be elite at somthing)

It wouldn't surprise me to see Chatfield on the roster Rod loves his skaters....

Coughlan looks like a steal... On the hockey forum a ton of people were flipping over the losses of Trocheck and Nino but as much as Fans loved Tro the increase in minutes alone should let KK put up similar points...

I called he would make the team last season this season my prediction is Jarvis becomes a 70-80 point guy.... He has Aho level skills and isn't afraid to mix it up in the box.

Six more headed out.

Forwards: Pashin, LaBate, and Murray (did not play) are headed to Chicago; Robidas is headed to juniors.

Defensemen: Farrance (did not play) is headed to Chicago.

Goalie: Hamrla (did not play) is headed to juniors.

I really liked what I saw from Robidas, I think we’ll see him in the league in a couple of years.

Chatfield actually beat a couple Lightning guys the other night to nullify icing calls.

I missed last night's game due to a previously scheduled social engagement, but I really like Chatfield and Coghland. Bear is gonna be the odd man out, sorry to say. I really like the kid and hope he makes a career in the league, but he's not quite there yet to make this team.

The game at Tampa has officially been canceled.

Updated preseason schedule below:

Game 1: Canes 5 - Lightning 1

Game 2: Canes 5 - Panthers 2

Game 3: Canes vs. Panthers (Saturday - 1PM)

Game 4: Canes vs. Blue Jackets (Monday - 7PM)

Game 5: Canes @ Sabres (Tuesday - 7PM)

Notes

- Saturday’s game is free to the public to my knowledge, if you live the RDU area you can treat yourself to some no cost hockey tomorrow and use that extra money for the $7.50 Storm Brews. For those that don’t live in the area, like myself, the game will be streamed on the Canes website.

- Monday’s game is not free and will be streamed on the Canes website.

- Tuesday’s game will be on NHL Network.

- After Tuesday’s game, the Canes will have a week off before opening up the regular season at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday, October 12th, at 7:00PM.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
