How Fox could keep his job (even with 4-12)

Mr. Scot

I don't mind Fox being here next season, as long as there is MAJOR changes to the offense. OC, QB, etc.

I really don't think a new HC will bring the instant success many think it will. Plus, I don't think Richardson would end up hiring the major HC's that many are pining for.

I was alluding to the fact there there may be a potential strike. If there is, coaches still get paid, which would mean Richardson would be paying two guys to do nothing on Sunday instead of just paying one. It's all speculation, I was speculating. :)

And I've been to all the games this year. The stadium seemed half empty at times last year, even though we were doing great. You need to look at concession numbers rather than empty seats, that's the only thing that can give you an accurate picture of what's going on.

You really think there wont be football on Sunday?

Better winning record means more chance of Fox staying, unless you take the notion that Fox could have fixed it sooner or avoided the whole thing entirely, so improvement iat the end is too little, too late.

The question is which way Jerry Richardson believes.

I hope he beleives this team is heading in the wrong direction. Three winning seasons in the past seven (if you count this one as a losing one) is not acceptable. Plus the failure to have a QB of the future on this team, espc after the lost year when Jake got hurt that showed the need for one, alone is why Fox needs to move on.

I'm all for a new coach but only if we get someone who's going to improve what we've got going on right now, and bring in a mindset that will enhance our chances to win through utilizing our strengths to the hilt and re-energizing the fanbase, which as Jerry Richardson said in January of '02, is an important part of the process.

I wish the media would give a little more information in regards to the rumor that there was a disagreement prior to the season starting between Richardson and Fox/Hurney.

If that was true....whatever there different view was coming in could be the ultimate factor.

It doesn't really matter how many games you win or lose, Chargers fired Schottenheimer in 2006 after a 14-2 season. Fox has been there for 8 seasons, alot longer than average years for coaches. I do have mixed feelings about letting Foxy go. But he had his chance, it's time to start over. There are alot of reasons why Carolina is struggling, new coaches ie QB coach, def coordinator, etc ... Plus certain players are being distractions, ie Delhomme, Peppers, Smith, Beason, etc ... This is my wish list for the new year, I don't think all this will happen, but lets hope: Panthers bring in Cowher as HC, keeps John Fox as def. coordinator (Fox was def coach for Raiders Rams & Giants), Cowher changes Panthers defense from 4-3 into 3-4 like Steelers were under Cowher, Peppers said publicly he wanted to move to linebacker in a 3-4 defense, keep or cut Delhomme as a backup, maybe give Moore a shot next year, and maybe with a top 10 draft pick for 2010, make sure you draft a QB for the future.

1) There is no way John Fox would stay on as defensive coordinator, especially if we were changing to a 3-4

2) We don't have a first round pick this coming year

    • Immediately cast blame? We had been talking about the bad throws to Hunter (the missed TDs and hospital ball) for days leading up to that injury report.   And yeah, the rib injury then becomes something to point out.  and you are getting desperate with this projected extremism.  No one  said you should never throw seams.  I shared with you an article after you scoffed at seams being routes you can get hung out to dry on….and it was the best of the best talking about the dangers of those routes.   And they talked about it because they threw them a lot and there dudes were at risk so the throws really matter.  Because you can hurt your receivers.  we disagree, cool.  I got a pro Bryce former NFL QB calling it a hospital ball and bad throw.  So I got a plus +1 making my argument.  Find a QB that backs your take.
    • You exclusively highlighted Hunter's name on the injury report and then immediately cast blame. I've pointed out that this wasn't the hospital ball you claim it to be while also acknowledging that there could have been another option to target instead of Renfrow. By everything you've expressed here, you don't think seam routes should ever be thrown. I don't know how that helps the already struggling offense, but I do know that it would make it even worse than it already is. Scapegoating never has and never will solve anything. Tell you what: Try not blaming Bryce or casting shade his way for the entire week after Arizona and instead look at the other 21 starters and assess what they're doing (again, without shading Bryce). I'll join you and refrain from exploring what the rest of the team is doing and will focus solely on what Bryce needs to do better. Deal? This is a sincere peace offering to allow us to explore the other's perspective and perhaps be even more informed football fans.
    • TMac PI throw was a TD too.  Bryce just drastically under threw it.  Renfrow and TMac set themselves up to BOTH have great days.   the story of last of no one was open…..isn’t a defense the Bryce Young defenders can use so far this year
