Canes v Flames 4pm

Positives were offensive zone time- Carolina worked hard at keeping the puck in the zone. Looked very good on the wrong end of a back-to-back weekend. A lot more shots taken from the face-off circles in.

Not so good- another turn over in the middle of the ice leading to a breakaway goal. Canes, at times, had issues with Calgary's forecheck, and the flames got aggressive with it on their PK. 2 of 3 on the PP? Wow, about time.

Brent Burns didn't take many shots (relatively speaking) and I actually saw him think twice about jumping in and, instead, he backed off to the blue line. Maybe he's finally starting to figure out his role.

Jarvis is coming. He's young and still makes the occasional misread, but he's going to be really good. KK is starting to come around, but it's going to take a lot of making up with his contract, expectations and performance thus far. He lost at least 1 tooth Friday in Boston, and I thought he'd be down yesterday, but he played okay.... just okay. He was physical yesterday- I will give him that.

Paul Stastny. If I hadn't heard his name on the PA getting credit for an assist, I wouldn't have known he was playing yesterday, and I was at the game. Maybe I'm wrong, but I had a lot more expectation of his veteran leadership and ability to bring a physical presence to the front of the net, like the Nino he replaced. But I've seen the very rare flash, but nothing that wows me. Matter of fact, that whole line is under-achieving and it's driving me nuts given the amount of experience.

    • Yeah I think he's just talking continuity it's not really an endorsement. Also I would think CarolinaHuddle of all places would understand using "we" for the team you follow. I can't STAND when dorks do the "Oh so you play for them then? Hurr hurr"
    • Kon is a damn stud but it’s not any individual player’s team. All of the “big 3” are incredibly and equally important IMO. And LaMelo makes Kon way better (look at his shooting splits with LaMelo on the floor vs without. Also Moose and even Miles are important cogs. Honestly think we’re 1 piece away from being legit top contenders if the young guys continue to develop the next year or two. I trust this FO to be patient to find that piece within the next 2-3 years and not force anything. Plenty of time and even without adding anyone we have the pieces in place overall already to compete with any team.
    • We lost 2 very close and winnable games against top teams in the league while missing 3 critical players despite 2 of our top 3 players shooting unusually terribly. Still split the 4 games that Moose and Miles were suspended, winning the most important one vs the Hawks. This ain’t yo mama’s Hornets man. Hopefully Coby can go soon but even if not Moose and Miles are huge additions for our starting lineup and bench rotations. Schedule is pretty tough after these next 4 but I think we’ll take care of business the next 4 to get to .500 then finish slightly above .500 after that to get a 7 or 8 seed. Keep it rolling boys. Also Kon is having an insanely historic rookie season as a shooter. Like truly can’t believe my eyes watching this kid level of historic. Man what a fuging home run of a draft pick and exactly what this team needed to take that next step forward. He’s gonna shatter the rookie 3 point and franchise 3 point records. Has a real chance to be the 2nd best 3 point shooter ever or dare I say even get to Curry’s level (as a pure shooter, Curry obviously has way more to his game that has made him a GOAT).
