Wilks' word vs. Rhule's

I wasn't aware Wilks called the offensive plays? I thought McAdoo did that?

I know Wilks told him to go for it but I doubt he told him to pass it 4 straight times.

What I saw was McAdoo trying to get cute by abandoning the run at the goal line when it had been working all day.  But if Sam has a run or pass play in his pocket that he can audible to then where does the fault lie?

If you want to find a fault with Wilks it would be for not stopping McAdoo when the calls came in. That’s if you believe he knows what every call coming will be.

Wilks has said he has given MacAdoo full control of the Offense. You can't blame Wilks for calls MacAdoo is making.

People are too quick to jump to conclusions. Like calling Wilks a Rivera, or a Fox clone. Why? Just because he is a Defensive minded guy? Seems short sighted to me. Let Wilks be Wilks, and let's see where it leads us.

every play goes through the HC's ear.   And his job is literally to manage the game.  That's not just to call a time out and throw a red flag.   But to manage and direct what are choosing to do on offense and defense.

the bolded is exactly what I am faulting him for.   And yeah, he knows the calls.  That's what the headset is for.  He isn't surprised when the ball is snapped like we are.

Look, I can't stand McAdoo and I like Wilks.  But I'm done w/ these clones we have had as HC in Carolina.  I want something new and I have said the same since before this season started when I wanted Rhule gone.  The division being ass this year isn't going to make me want Wilks ball.  And if we wanted that type of HC we should of just kept CMC.

So it all comes down to you wanting something new. And you use Wilks being a Rivera, or Fox clone to prove your point? So, it won't matter what Wilks does the rest of the year, cuz you'll still want something new.

There are plenty of Defensive HC who have had success. We don't actually have to have an Offensive coach to have success. It's just that everybody wants something new.

There are plenty of ways to have success in the NFL. But having a quality HC is job 1. And we seem to have that one under control.

Didn't mean to touch a nerve.

I guess how we win means more than if we win.

I just want to win.

Yeah, Wilks is what he is.  Just like Ron was.  Just like Fox was.  Whatever happens to finish out this year won't alter who Steve Wilks is as a football coach.  Wilks has been around for a long time.  Our division is complete dog poo.   So who knows what happens.  Some bad team will make the playoffs.

I want to build something new from the ground up and I want it to be offensive.   Yes, I want to try something new in Carolina.  Wilks is a continuation of Ron, Fox, Capers.  Same formula.  Should of just kept Ron at this stage.  Avoided the Rhule era and just keep doing Ron things.

I've been consistent on this since Rhule was here.  I want an offensive minded guy.  And Wilks is getting a double bounce coming off Rhule and the division being a joke.  I mean, our team in reality has no business being in the mix of a division.  We are simply because our division is horrific.

3 paragraphs and they all say the same thing. Wilks is a clone, and you want something new.

First. We are just now figuring out who Wilks is. It is FAR too early to call him a Rivera clone. You are making a huge assumption.

Second. We are finally building a winning culture. And you want to tear it down and start over? That's a bold strategy Cotton.

I'm sorry. You are not going to get a lot of traction with this line of thinking right now. However, if we lose out. You may get your wish. I think I know what side you'll be on.

building a winning culture?  We haven't had a winning record since 2017.  Tear it down?   Tear what down?

There is a good vibe about the team right now.  They’re playing hard, physical and seem to rally behind Wilks and are winning more despite deficiencies with offensive playcalling and quarterbacks. That’s not something you just take away, you keep Wilks and let him build on it

We are running the ball and playing defense against meh teams.   Yeah, that works.   And yeah, Matt Rhule couldn't figure out the most basic stuff.

That's nothing special.

Matt Rhule being so bad is going to lead to another mistake easily foreseen mistake.   Hiring a defensive coach just running and playing defense against a bad schedule.

and the reason I want an offensive HC is because they are the constant.  You have to hope Wilks can find a OC.  And if the OC is actually really good? Well, he would go be a HC somewhere else.

Now you are just being obtuse. This team is winning games. That is how you build a winning culture. The past means absolutely squat right now. Wilks has this team believing in itself. That is how.

And you are the one who said "I want that shiney new Offense'. You are not getting that without tearing things down and starting over. That is not going to happen.

You are so fixated on what you want. You are missing out on what's actually happening.

Edit to add; Good teams lose OCs all the time. And they can remain good teams. Having a replacement OC on staff that can learn from the present one, then take over when he leaves is not out of the question.

I think Wilks is a fine football coach.  But I still contend he is Ron Rivera all over again.

I just don't think he can lead a present day NFL team to really contend in this offensive era.  To naturally risk adverse.  And when he does "mix it up"......it stuff like we saw on Sunday with 4 pass plays from the 4.   That's not good offensive game management.

What do you think of S. McDermott? I mean he came off of Rivera's tree as a defensive coordinator. His offense is run by someone that was on Rivera's staff. Daboll got his shot because people are on this stupid narrative of OCs for head coaching is the only way to compete. They are quickly fading from playoff contention. The only reason that the Bills offense suddenly changed for the better was because of the personnel. Allen got way better with a WR who could consistently beat coverage in Diggs. What you need is a leader of men and a good GM. Hell if Gettleman would've drafted Devante Adams and Stephon Diggs like the coaching staff wanted, Rivera might not be look at so unfavorably.

lol.  You are the one who declared it a winning culture.   I simply asked what you are talking about.

Wilks is .500 against a slate of trash teams minus the Ravens.

I said I want an offensive minded HC and to build something new form the ground up.

And yeah, we are literally in the window where you would tear things down and start over.  That's why we traded away CMC.  That's why we fired our HC.   There is nothing to save about our offense.  We are just running at people with very average RBs.  That's it.

You never asked anything. You just scoffed at the idea that Wilks is instilling a winning culture. You won't see it because it goes against your agenda.

The only ppl who care who we beat are the ones with an agenda. We beat who we played.

You want a shiny new Offense. The hell with what is being built now. Sounds like you care more about your wants, than the what the Panthers are building.

You may get your wish. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

I think McDermott lucked into Cam Newton Vol 2.  McD falls into the DC camp of HCs.

I'd rather have McVay, Shanahan, Reid, type coach instead of a McD.  Because they can win with Jimmy G or Alex Smith or Goff.

you said we were finally building a winning culture.  I merely pointed out we haven't won as a franchise in a long time.  Haven't won this year.  And Wilks doesn't even have a winning record in his portion of the schedule.  Matt Rhule put the bar on the floor.  Which is helping propel the Wilks push.

Wilks likely will hover around a .500 to close to interim job playing very basic football vs bad teams.

I maintain my same position since the start of the year.  I don't want a defensive coach whose tendency is to play football from prior eras.
