Adam Schefter's Top Head Coach Candidates for 2010:

Seifert wasn't a defensive minded coach was he? I thought he was only a B. Walsh disciple.

I am surprised Garrett wasn't snatched up before. I had heard at one time Wade Phillips was just in charge until Garrett was ready to take over.

I am usually more for the DC over the OC but we need an offensive minded coach to go with Meeks.

Wonder if Hurney would promote Meeks?

Go Panthers

Always remember in these discussions that Jerry Richardson has a preference for defensive coaches. To date, he's yet to even interview an offensive coach.

Maybe thats the problem? I don't want to start an argument. But I just want something different for a change. I think the Defense is fine, what we need is offense.

You have to put Jim Harbaugh's name out there. He has became my new Favorite HC candidate. I think he will come in and transform our offense into the new age, the forward pass. He is one of the best QB coaches in football and brings a confidence to a team the likes of which I have never seen. I mean can any one top the greatest upset in football history, a 41 point underdog they beat USC 25-24 and ended a 35 straight home win streak. Then upset them in a beat down (Stanford beating down USC wow) this year.

Hopefully, he lets Meeks stay and run the D. He also would most likely help our ST tremendously (his brother was a very good ST coordinator).

Harbaugh's passing game is actually fairly conservative in college and relies on a runnng game. Anyone who really expects a pass-first guy in here will be disappointed - we have a fairly solid defense, a running game that can't help but succeed, and a major QB issue. Anyone who gets hired should be ready to run the football.

But, I think he can. He made that Gerhart kid into a beast.

It's easy to say the defense is fine when comparing it to our offense.

But look at the talent we have on offense. It doesn't take an offensive genius to run the ball well. If we had a top-tier defense, it could make our offense look that much better (yeah, yeah -- and vice versa).

you can pay Defense all day long if you want, but if you can't score, you can't win. Teams don't Run and play D and win championships anymore. Sure you need a good D. Put if your offense can't put up points forget it.

I meant he actually knows the vertical pass and how to use it in balance with run. Not 41 pass attempts one 15 the next, 40 run attempts one week 6 or 7 the next (I'm making these up but thats how inconsistent it seems). He also is one helluva QB coach and I think he could be good for our O overall. I agree with the power run but if your QB sucks it kinda makes it hard to run against 8 or 9 in the box every down.

I agree, I just think it won't take much to get our offense back on track. We can obviously run the ball at will -- we just need a quarterback who can take what the opposing defense will give him, and a coordinator who knows his quarterback's limitations.

Our defense was steadily improving under Meeks' tutelage, but injuries have taken their toll. I want to see the Panthers get back to playing 2003 and 2005 defense.

now we are on the same page ;). I just want an HC, that knows some kind of offense and/or can develop a young QB that can start for years to come. id be willing to be that if Fox is gone, the rest of the assistants could be in trouble, b/c he will pick his own staff. Meeks is probably safe.
