I think either one is solid. Right now, I’m not thinking Steichen gets a HC job. It that stands, it will be interesting to see if that changes things for Johnson. It will be interesting to watch though.

Probably depends on how closely tied Johnson is to to Hurts.

(wasn't aware of the connection Kaye mentions here till now)

Kaye clarifies further in response to a question...

A couple of other names I’ve heard floated around with ties to Reich are Parks Frazier (offensive assistant with the Colts and married to former Colts and Panthers reporter Caroline Cann; Reich officiated their nuptials) and Jason  Michael (current TE coach with the Eagles). Both have history with Reich at previous stops. Michael Groh (current WR coach and former Colts assistant) has also been mentioned as a potential addition to Reich’s staff.

For anybody that's with the Colts, you probably have to wait until they finish their head coaching search.

(otherwise known as the "please, anybody but Jeff Saturday" quest)

A native of Jacksonville, Texas, McCown also coached at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C., during the 2019 season while he was a member of the Eagles' active roster.

The Texans have completed an interview with Josh McCown for the head coaching position. (houstontexans.com)

Yep. Spent a couple years playing for the Panthers too.

Don't know that he and Reich ever crossed paths but they came close. McCown joined the Eagles a little after Reich went to the Colts.

I daresay he'd be another home run hire as a QB coach.

Here's a tidbit from Dan Pompei in The Athletic...

McCown was a backup for most of his career, a coaching advantage he has discussed with Colts head coach Frank Reich, another longtime backup.

“When you are a starter, there are so many things you don’t see because you are so focused,” McCown says. “When you are a backup, you have this wider lens because the pressure of playing is not necessarily at the forefront. You may notice the starting nickel having a bad day. Something is going on with him. You see how it’s handled as an organization, or how you can step up and encourage somebody.”

...

McCown tries to study two to three NFL games a day from a variety of teams. He keeps current on college and high school trends as well. He talks football with Ballard, Reich, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland and Texas-San Antonio coach Jeff Traylor, one of McCown’s coaches at Jacksonville.

So apparently, they're friends.

Things may have just gotten more interesting 👀

Also found this comment from former teammate Steve Smith on McCown from Pro Football Network

Steve Smith spoke glowingly about McCown’s potential as a head coach

“Josh sees the game the way quarterbacks see it, a certain way, and they have so many responsibilities,” said Smith, a retired Pro Bowl wide receiver who was teammates with McCown with the Carolina Panthers and have remained close friends.

“I like Josh. He’s been on so many teams that he knows half of the offenses in the league because he’s been around a lot of teams as the backup. He’s assisted in developing the quarterbacks to see it a certain way. I think he’s helped coaches with game plans. It’s an advantage for a coach to have been a backup quarterback. Let’s be honest. When I see a backup quarterback get in the game, at some point, he will reveal why he’s a backup.

“The true essence of a backup’s value is because they study so much that they have to be a second pair of eyes for the quarterback, the coach, and the offensive coordinator. That’s a unique responsibility. Not everybody is built for it, but backup quarterbacks have a unique advantage in studying the game and knowing so much. Frank Reich, Doug Pederson, Jason Garrett, they were all backup quarterbacks. They’ve seen the inside of the game. It doesn’t surprise me at all that Josh is being considered for a head coaching job.”

“I know Josh in a way that’s a little bit different. Josh is my guy. We talk a lot. We have familiar stories with our families. We’ve had ski trips together, barbecues. Me and him are good friends, but I’m a realist and I’m not going to lie for him. I know how good he is and how much he knows about this game. I told him, (laughing) if he needs a receivers coach, don’t call me.”

Man, I will be really disappointed if this rumor turns out to be bullsh-t 😄
