Per Rich Eisen: “The Bears are long down the road to trading the first overall pick. The teams have been identified, compensation is being hammered out.”

And everyone acknowledges that

I honestly expect every team that brings him on for a visit to have him step on a scale. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he doesn't re-weigh at his pro day. If he does and then goes through drills then I'll shut up about it. Yeah, he could tank up with water and add 5-6 pounds or so and then go take a leak before drills but that's about it.

Yeah I mean why would we want a career 67% passer, a little over 4k yards a season, 2.5:1 TD:Int ratio and almost 100 QB Rating

Is he Pat Mahomes? No, he's pretty good though and the fact that you think ending up like Dak is a DOWNSIDE is hilarious.

If we get a chance, I would take a shot at Stroud.  Actually, think he is a better choice than Young because of the size.

But that being said, those numbers are college numbers, and college numbers when he played on a team that had significantly more talent than their opponents.  He was pretty good in college.  Whether that xfers to the NFL is anyone's guess.  But as I said, I hope we can draft him.

Why didn't he do ANY drills at his 'playing weight' then?

What is the purpose of the nfl combine? To improve your draft stock, right?

He didn’t participate for the same reason many who are projected in the top 3-5 picks also skip out.

I don't believe for one second that Bryce Young is viewed as the number 1 QB in this draft.  Everybody in their momma know CJ Stroud is the top QB and will be the number one pick.  That is why we have to move up to the Bears' pick to get him.

Im not gonna say young isnt worthy, i just really prefer Stroud. To the point i would be a lil disappointed if we trade up and dont pick him.

Maybe but he is going to get hit

Even if you could say for certain that he has more risk of injury on a hit by hit basis, his ability to take less hits and less big hits isn’t something you can ignore. Let’s say he takes one “significant” hit every 50 hits, and some 6’3 QB takes one “significant” hit every 25 hits. And let’s say for the sake of the example that Young gets injured on every “significant” hit, while the other QB gets injured for every 2 “significant” hits. Well then they get injured exactly the same amount. But then what if the 6’3 QB also takes twice as many hits. Well then all of a sudden the 6’3 QB is more likely to get injured. These are obviously all made up numbers, but it’s just to illustrate that it is possible to have a skill set that reduces risk of injury, and Bryce has that skill set without question. It’s just a matter of does the skill set make up for the size. I think it’s closer to a wash with these other QBs than some people think.

And just for note, I was on the “don’t want Young because of his size” train until just a couple weeks ago when I really started watching him and learning about him. What I see is a skill set that offsets the size concern and then you get all his other elite attributes on top of that. I was hoping he would come in more in the 5’11-6ft range at the combine, but nobody was surprised at the 5’10.

His height is fine. His playing weight isn’t.

On the plus side he can hide really well at that height. They won’t be able to find him to sack him.
But really, I think about all those Mayfield batted passes, and envision the same thing.
The Russell Wilson trajectory, because he has to get it over the big guys. And I remember watching Flutie.
I see that as t(e issue more than him being carted off or something.

And I sure hope that isn’t the menu 17 times a year.

    • Losing Necas would be worse than a majority of Canes fans think.  When he's on he controls the puck with speed and gains zone entry so well, he is still young.  He should be considered part of our core.
    • Raym is like bozeman, based on what I read--lacks the lateral quickness he needs--however, he is supposed to be a beast / bully when he engages. I was watching Popo a bit, and he is a perfect PS developmental 3-4 DE. Coker should make the roster because if we put him on the PS, another team will take him.
