Quick: Tepper not pulling the strings

Not having the state of the art practice facility Tepper promised has nothing to do with the team? There was also the field level box seat mess as well. I recall it ticked off quite a few fans.

Not really no, and the city of rock hill was the one that fuged that up anyway. There’s been a lot of people looking for a reason to hate him since he got here, getting outraged over nothing.  Overall he’s been a net positive influence on the team, and some growing pains are sure to be expected from anyone that’s new at something like this. I for one see him as a breath of fresh air after the stale fetid atmosphere that Richardson enforced, always striving to maintain the status quo and caring more about the good of the league over the good of the team.  Hopefully Tepper shakes stuff up more.

This is the most exciting offseason we’ve ever seen outside maybe the first one, just because nothing could be more exciting than getting our own franchise was. There’s no way this could have happened under Richardson.  The most comparable year, 2011, had a shitty HC hire, kept Hurney, would go on to fire him, hire someone arguably worse, and then REHIRE Hurney. In 2011 we had the #1 pick and Cam was exciting, but nothing else really moved the needle. Most of us were cautiously optimistic Rivera could be decent but annoyed we went with yet another defensive HC.

So yea, Tepper’s mishandling the preliminary round of coaching and keeping Hurney was a mistake.  One he seemed to learn from.

I was told by someone with knowledge of the situation that we were using the Appaloosa Method and Tepper was secretly manipulating everything from behind the scenes 😐

Seriously though... There have definitely been problems, most of which stemmed from temper putting his trust in the wrong people (specifically Hurney, then Rhule). That plus his own admission that he came into the league thinking he was going to show everybody how it was done.

The good thing is he's learned from his mistakes.

Well yea, those problems are all part of that group of mistakes I mentioned. Being too patient with Rivera/Hurney then falling for Rhule’s bs was absolutely a huge mistake. But as to my point, he’s been the opposite of meddling by doing what you said, trusting those three incompetents too much.

He's been characterized in the past as a potential Jerry Jones type because of his personality and the way he ran his business. It hasn't really manifested that way though.

Some here speculated that the failure of Rhule might prod him to take on a more activist role, but that hasn't happened either.

We had a crowd that believed he'd fire Fitterer and bring in "his own" GM (not that It ever really made sense) but instead it sounds like Fitterer is now more trusted than ever.

Tepper's mistakes stoked the flame of people's fears over what he could be, and that's a pretty natural human reaction.

But thankfully, at least so far none of those fears have really proven valid.

Mike Kaye, Ellis Williams, Joe Person and John Ellis are all very good follows for Panthers content (among others) along with Josh Klein and the Roaring Riot of course.

I'm also a subscriber to The Athletic and definitely recommend it.

It's so crazy to imagine it any other way.

Owner - pays the bills and has input in decisions, but does not decide per se

GM - key decision maker. walks the tightrope between coaching/players/personnel (Reich, coordinators, players), the directors and behind the scenes guys (Morgan, Suleimann, etc.) and the Owner

HC - runs the on-field product and runs up to the GM his vision/requests/design needs. Works hand-in-hand with GM and has input into decisions.

I DO NOT DISAGREE

But if the football minds , lets say for the sake of discussion, pick Tanner McKee out of Stanford .. THE HUDDLE WILL GO BALISTIC BLASTING THE COACHES PICK..  That means most want to be like Tepper and pick their own QB .. We're no different.  It's easy to say let the coaches do their work ( which I agree with )  until they make a pick that "WE" disagree with ,  then we're like the  meddling owner.

Yeah, there's a lot of "I trust the staff... until they make a pick I don't like and then I'm abandoning my fanhood" going around 😆

No staff is perfect, but I think it's at least worth waiting until we see some actual games played before we go jumping off a cliff.

Keeping Ron too long, keeping and listening to Marty way too long

Do you know what the first thing a manager should change when they take on a new job?

Nothing.

Keeping Ron and Hurney was the correct move. That said, Hurney should have been gone with Ron.

Yea that’s fair. But there have been a lot of posters around here not talking about their fears, but actually accusing him of being what you refer to and stating it as fact.
