Colt McCoy seriously a 2nd round pick?

Drew Brees is 5'11

He also had a very hard time seeing over D linemen until his time in NO. He is the exception, not the norm.

3 things when looking at QB's to be drafted..IMO.

How was the completion % and YPA in college.

How tall/big is he.

How many years did you start/are you a junior.

Satisfy those 3, and have an NFL arm, and I would be more than happy for you to be a player on team fuzz.

The only question about this kid is his arm strength. If he could be had with our 2nd round pick and we didn't have to move around or position ourselves for our next franchise QB then I'd be ecstatic to give him a shot. Its not like we have a lot of luck with 2nd rounders anyways in this organization.

I think there can be more 6'0 QB...Teams just dont want them

McCoy is the best senior QB in the draft. He is 6'3", which is decent size for a QB. I think he fits the west coast offense perfectly.. he reminds me of Matt Hasselbeck.. I think he will have a similar career to him. I would be happy with that in the 2nd round. McCoy does not fit the Panthers current offensive philosphy.

Yes I'm ignorant to these types of things. I have 0 clue where anyone should be drafted. For the second time in a week, i heard someone say he was a second rounder, this time it was Mel Kiper Jr. So I will ask the experts here, is this right??

2nd round is about right for Colt. I never realized how small is he is until last night. He dwarfed by Troy Aikman (award presenter) and even Chris Fowler (award show host) had him outsized.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
