Will Burns sign an extension before Week 1?

Have the panthers as a franchise ever done anything like that before?

Not exactly the same, but letting Peppers walk, Hiring Marty twice, keeping Marty too long, Keeping Ron too long, Paying over the hill players instead of letting them go, Sean Gilbert, Matt Rhule, signing all of Rhule's college guys, John Fox's lame duck season, and signing Matt Kalil. Those are other boneheaded moves this franchise has made over the years.

So we turned down 2 draft picks for Burns and we are not making this a priority?

It was actually 3 (two 1sts and pick 36 this year) and another $28-30M a year for say a couple of $15M a year FAs, so potentially 5 solid players. With the Rams seemingly in rebuild mode, those picks may have been pretty high. Heck, I said it before that if the Rams had to pay Burns and didn’t have those 3 picks that McVay and maybe even Donald may have stepped away. That was a last ditch gasp by them to make the playoffs in Stafford’s window. That was a big reason I was for the deal thinking that if McVay leaves there could have been more dominoes to fall potentially making those firsts top 5 type picks.

I’m a fan of Burns but I’d take those 3 picks and the money for two top FAs every time. Build around Young as the primary objective.

It’s water under the bridge anyway so let’s get a deal done already so his price doesn’t keep moving up.

Pretty sure they know what burns agent wants to get. He's going to get it and it's going to hurt some people in this thread. 😂

Oh, he’ll get it. Same way Tunsil was able to get top T money with no problem. You can’t trade that much or not trade for that much and then try to get some sort of discount. I would fire my GM immediately if he turned down that package only to have the guy leave for way less or holdout because he won’t play on a tag.

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
