We could have kept Rhule until the end of the season and had the number one pick.  We are looking at a long rebuild. The benefits of sucking in '23 will go to Chicago. We will be filling multiple holes w/ minimal draft picks. Tepper is the worst owner in the league. He should be doing the opposite of what he thinks since every decision he  makes is bad.

That would have been a big "screw you" to Steve Wilks.

He may not have earned the head coaching job here, but he did at least deserve the chance to do so.

As to expectations, if you're going into this season having any at all, it's probably a mistake.

This is a total reboot with a new staff, new quarterback and everything. Who knows what the first season will look like?

Me? I don't care.

I just want to see progress that builds toward next season.

That's when expectations can really start.

But he did. What exactly did he do that was not positive?  He didn't get the job because they wanted a younger offensive mind from day one. He was never given an actual chance to get the job short of blowing out every single opponent he faced. Like I said, giving him false hope was another stupid Tepper move.

The only reason he is DC in SF right now is because Tepper gave him a chance to show what he had. The guy isnt HC material, I didnt even care for him as our DC under Ron. Before he was brought onto Rhules staff he had been out of the NFL since 2019 and was a DC at missouri, not quite a dream job.

For one, he was committed to a DC who was more of an old friend than a good coach.

Wilks did a great job in the short term. I'm not convinced he would have worked out long term though, especially after seeing some of those late season games against better teams.

I don’t know if they gave him false hope. They liked him but wanted to see who else was out there. I think that was made clear.

Regardless, Wilks with Holcomb and whoever else at OC was not the best plan for developing a rookie QB. Frank came in with specific names of coordinators he’d bring in (according to Fitt) which ultimately is what won him the job.

Just because it has never happened does not automatically mean it can't. Peyton was 3-13. Well Peyton was on a crappy team. This is not a crappy team.

If Bryce even sniffs OROY, this team is fighting for the Playoffs.

What I'm hearing is a bunch of people that would rather be "Realistic" and right. Then "Optimistic" and wrong. Play scared and you lose. What does a fan lose by being optimistic? And why does being optimistic seem to scare so many of you?

    • You would hope so. I’m confused why the sports world seems split on Bryce when he’s obviously not working out.
    • So let’s do the reverse? Make everyone agree everything he does is a disaster? I also think the whole “gaslighting” is on the eye of the beholder. It went from he can’t avoid one single sack countered with he actually did that well Sunday (with data backing it) to a little breakdown of why he is so bad. People are going to have different opinions. I’m also not going to pretend this wasn’t happening Day one with this little QB.
    • All this great stuff he has done, how often does he do it?  I have it at three or four games out of 14 where he was very good and then you get a drive here or a series there where there are some good things. Here is the gaslight part: everyone has put him on a curve with his first year the baseline, neglecting to understand how bad he was then. Even if he comes back twice as good, where does that really leave him? 25th ranked or thereabouts.     He had so far to go, and still does, it is a Major ‘settle’ to accept his play as worthy of giving him our future.  You want to settle when the Bucs have Mayfield, and the Saints have overtaken us at QB? We will be third in the division at QB. That is good enough for y’all?
