Funny how everyone questions Dan's opinion, like he didn't play in the league for almost 8 years or however long it was. Not saying that he is right or wrong, but i will take his judgment over most anybody on here for what its worth

Good logic. So you take every football analyst on ESPN (Most of them are former football players) judgment over everyone also?

Oh God! Another daily sign Vick thread, It is getting tedious isn't it? Going on this year, because thats what matters most (what have you done lately and all) Vick can't hold Moore's jock. He has done nothing on the field to warrant signing him. Sure a few years ago he was Good as a running QB and had a strong arm but he was inaccurate as a passer. I am happy he is rehabilitating his image, good for him, but he is not the answer to our QB woes. I don't think our starter for the future is out of college yet.

We may draft a quarterback, and the last few years have had some good class of quarterbacks that have emerged as good leaders, but you always take the risk of getting a Jamarcus Russell. Sometimes it takes time to develope quarterbacks of the future and is that really what carolina should do? I mean we dont need someone that isnt experience and goes out there like Sanchez and throws as many ints as Delhomme... thats why we are out of the playoff race. I'd like to see a younger vet come in thats has some starting experience under his belt. Bring him to camp and let him compete with Moore, Delhomme and Feeley. I'm not really impressed with Campbell either... He's just as inconsistant as Moore...

I'm not trying to nail you guys down i just want the Panthers to win as much as you guys and want someone running this offense that can make big time plays and someone that we can be excited about on Sunday's. Let's make a move here and get something going to take us to a Super Bowl. Moore still has a chance to earn my respect and the players respect but other than last night i am just not sold on this guy. As far as my comment about Moore not knowing the playbook, i just didn't pull that out of my ass. I had vets on the team tell me that.

Maybe some vets on the team don't know what Moore actually knows? And maybe a former player of the same team shouldn't be spreading those rumors and saying something like that to the public regardless if its true or not.

Dan, with all due respect (and in agreement that the concussion jokes are out of line) we're all on somewhat even ground here.

If we were talking Xs and Os, defensive alignments or assignments or anything of that sort, I'd give your opinion full authority. But in all fairness, neither you, Buckner, Garcia or any other former player that's been discussed here has any more experience as a coach, GM, scout or team architect than any of us do.

All of these things are a particular talent. Some guys are phenomenal at it, others are not. More often than not, star players aren't the guys who wind up making personnel decisions. Talent for playing the game yourself doesn't necessarily equate to being able to spot, evaluate and develop talent in others.

I have all the respect in the world for you as a player, but on this issue I thoroughly disagree. I think Vick might be exciting, but not effective. His height was forever a problem in Atlanta, and several other teams (especially the Bucs and Colts) had figured out how to completely nullify his game - essentially by taking away his running and forcing him to pass - long before the Panthers did. But eventually they did, and that was before the prison stint.

Throw in that I have a hard time believing the owner who still, as one reporter (Yasinskas I think) put it, "gets a twitch in his face at the mention of Rae Carruth", would be willing to accept someone with Vick's history and potential issues. I just can't see it.

I'm not in favor. Honestly, I'd much rather have someone who can pass like Brees than run like Vick. Vick might be great for Sportscenter highlights, but the best QBs in the league right now are great passers, not great runners. I'd much rather we follow the trends than take a chance on a gimmick.

Loads of respect from me, but I can't get behind this idea at all.

    • Nothing wrong with starting to look for bodies early. It's a long injury filled season. I doubt we get through unscathed.
    • We're in alignment regarding Thielen not being a game changer/breaker for the Panthers. Getting the ball into hands of playmakers like TMac and XL is going to open up things more than it is getting it to Thielen underneath (or letting him go after 50/50 balls 20yds downfield in his mid-30s). However, in a room where the other guys are two second year guys and two rookies, having a reliable vet that they can learn from is just as important as it is for the QB to have as a reliable third option. I can see that being worth $8.5M (just 3%) of the $279.2M cap... especially when looking at what's left out there: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/_/position/wr However, the idea that the team is forcing production to Thielen and leading to losses isn't supported by the data. Targets, not receiving yards, are how you can tell if a player is being "force fed." In the two games mentioned, let's look at the other players available... vs. TB 10 targets - Adam Thielen 9 targets - David Moore 8 targets - Tommy Tremble, Xavier Legette 3 targets - Jonathon Brooks 1 target - Dan Chisena, Feleipe Franks, Stephen Sullivan vs. PHI 11 targets - Adam Thielen 8 targets - Xavier Legette 5 targets - Chuba Hubbard, David Moore 2 targets - Tommy Tremble 1 target - Ja'Tavion Sanders, Deven Thompkins There isn't exactly a bounty of other names to throw the ball to. In those games, AT was one of the top 2 WRs. Diontae had been gone by that point.   So... yea. Agreed that Thielen isn't exactly carrying the team in his mid-30s, but it's undeniable that he was the most reliable target last season that still has quite a bit of value this season. Whether or not that value is reflected in a manner folks think on the contract is going to come down to personal taste. However, the idea that the team was forcing production to AT and that was the reason behind some losses couldn't be further from the truth.
    • I would also add that I think it's more than money.  AT has looked absolutely miserable out there at times, and there was a lot of speculation he would demand to be traded.  Personally, I thought he was a lock to be moved last year.  Maybe his hamstring is the only thing that prevents that from happening. The fact that he's not only willing to come back and play, but excited about it, really bodes well for Bryce.  AT is a veteran and he knows the game.  If he didn't have confidence in Bryce, I guarantee you he wouldn't be in a Panther uniform this year.  I'll take that as a positive.
