Hoov as tailback?

I think it was just to have two different styles of running in there, and Hoover has alot of weight on him and can pound it in there... Stewart I think too the role of Williams, whereas Hoover was playing the role stewart normally does... Goodson is just really unreliable and has shown he'll put the ball on the ground, i'd be cautious too... But I think they should have have let him play more, especially once they were up by a comanding lead.

Fox is terrified of playing rookies.

Not really. He was just nervous of playing Goodson with how he was fumbling several times in the preseason. Even I was nervous about how his playing & want him to fix that before he start playing in more regular season games.

Or, Goodson is a bust.

Err.....too early to call him that. He just need to fix his fumbling problem & learn to break through holes more. If he can do that, I think he will do fine here.

In hindsight, Hoover probably knows the playbook a lot better than Goodson. He still did his thing though, I like when he gets the ball.

I like Goodson a lot, but I echo the concerns about his ability to hang on to the football.

Yes, many fond memories of watching him @ WCU... Fastest guy on the field! Today, not so much :P

Actually, he looked pretty quick.

Hoover has looked really good carrying the rock (and catching it) the last couple games. I hate to say this, but if we can continue to involve Hoov in the running game next year, and with Sutton and Goodson as depth, this team could definitely survive trading D-Will or J-Stew and continue to be a top rushing unit. I'm not saying that I want this to happen, because I don't, but we would be fine if it did.

I see your point, but they wouldn't be able to handle it by themselves over a 16-game stretch. I think you can make a better argument of trading one of them rather than both.

If that was the reason that Hoover was used over Goodson, then that would be a big negative over Goodson at this point in the season. I don't think it would have been a stretch to say that had Sutton been healthy, he would have gotten the carries that Hoover recieved, and Sutton has only been here since like. . .week 2.

I really hope Sutton gets re-signed.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
