2010 season is looking more and more like a throw-away season...

Some negativity for our Monday! :)

Theory: 2010 season will be an "it is what it is" season.

I'll start with Jerry Richardson. Jerry Richardson is a hands-off type of owner...more of a businessman. We all know he wants our franchise to emulate the Steelers. The problem is our expectations are lower and we have a totally different atmosphere than they do. I said this is another thread...The Steelers finished the SAME WAY we finished this season...losing games they should of won yet finished the season strong with 3 wins. Now how do we differ? Steelers are disappointed yet our team is happy as hell! WTF?! The Steelers want to win a Super Bowl every year and are disappointed if they don't. The Panthers are ok with anything as long as we don't finish with a crappy record like 4-12. Our drive to win is not as strong as other teams.

Now, I'm starting to place more and more blame on JR. I think JR will notify the three-headed monster (Fox, Hurney, and Delhomme) and tell them that they will all be gone unless "something crazy happens" i.e. make it back to the Super Bowl and win. BUT, this isn't a "last chance" type of deal or a test of character for the team...we all know these jokers will be gone after 2010 either way.

Now anybody saying Fox is a top 5 head coach is a dumbass. Fox is a decent to good coach, but his flaws are starting to override his strengths. Fox is the type of coach the Browns and Lions would LOVE yet teams like the Chargers or Cowboys would HATE. Fox does not know how to coach a talented team properly.

The biggest "answer" to next season is Matt Moore aka Matt Montana bka God and to bench/cut Delhomme.

Delhomme....so many problems...

-1st of all...paying a back-up QB 13 million is STUPID!

-Paying a crappy back-up QB 13 million is even MORE STUPID!!! How do I know he is crappy? If Delhomme was a free agent, he would probably be out of the league going into next season. Nobody else would want him. Plus, his play speaks for itself.

-That 5-year extension was stupid! Anybody thinking otherwise is a dumbass. The common rebuttal is "We saved 3 mil and we were going to pay him anyway." which would be ok if Jake didn't like crap BEFORE he got it. Need proof? Check out the Cardinals playoff game, Bucs game, and the Raiders game of 2008. I know we were trying to save cap, but for peaks sake! If we don't extend him, we are free to let Jake go this year or sign him to modest back-up deal. Now, we're STUCK with him. And trust me, this wasn't just a stupid move in hindsight...this was stupid all-around.

-I never heard of a situation where a guy plays as bad as Jake and started as long as he did and is asked to stay with the team as a back-up. NEVER!

Now I'm starting to think Fox will either

1.) Start Delhomme next year

2.) Go into next year thin at the QB position

I believe Hurney and Fox will keep Delhomme no matter how he plays in camp. Delhomme's play will probably determine if he starts or not though. Now imagine if Matt Moore gets hurt for an extended time or plays bad...who do we start? Delhomme?! Season is already over at that point. Fox won't start a low-priced free agent QB like Feeley or a rookie over Delhomme. Also, let's not forget Politics...Delhomme could start off the weight of his contract or the policy of a starter not losing his job to injury.(Even if Fox made up that injury to "bench" Delhomme) Prepare to get your pitchforks ready...

I blame JR for not fielding a staff/team he actually has trust in. If JR doesn't want Fox around, just fire him. Let's not waste a season on a coach you don't think will get you to the Super Bowl. Sadly, JR will have the philosophy I've seen in some posters "We're paying him so why not give him one more year? He (insert past accomplishment) and (reiterate last 5 games)."

I'm preparing myself for a throw-away season with no real lofty expectations.

Excellent thread! Ive said it over and over again the panthers lower the bar on their expectations every year. They seem happy with being a mediocre and inconsistent franchise as long as they dont have double digit losses every year. Thats why they will never be an elite franchise like the steelers, packers, cowboys, patriots, etc. They do not strive to be the best like those teams do.

Dan said Fox has his hand in everything.

Ok, neat.

I don't think JR is anything like some owners we all know, but I'd put my money on him having a big say in what happens with how "core" guys like Delhomme and Peppers.

Because the owner should be the one with his hand in everything. Jerry lets Fox run the show.

It would be idiotic to let somebody "run the show" and then leave them hanging on the last year of their contract. If he ran the show he would have either been extended or fired.

    • The guy has not coach college in ten years and in that span its greatly changed. Still take him over Davis, I want to see the presser and if billy still has fire in his eyes for college non-sense.....plus you know billy will want a multi-million staff.  This is interesting, very....... glad the old guard FINALLY steps aside......
    • Truth. Like when UNC hired Butch Davis and then we get hit for recruiting violations. Like yeah, no poo. Dude coached Miami when they we paying like the 33rd NFL team. What did you expect?
    • He's a hard player to rank, cause he is a young NT. I do see his abilities to branch out among the DL. That's the only way for him to land in the 1st, some team has to believe he's got the stuff to play DE or T3.... I just don't see using 19 on him, I feel there should be around 7 players just ranked higher than him for the Panthers team.  ___________________________________________________________________   Now you are a roster nut like me. Im tossing this into fire, I think a good move is to trade UP, yes rare. Just the roster #s tell me 5 rookies and no more than 2 starters will make the team. I feel 5 is magic number.    QB- 2  BY, Pickett RB- 3   Chubba, Brooks(pls), etienne TE- 4   Sanders, Temble, Evans, Draft pick/major/franks/UDFA OL- 10   Walker, Lewis, Fortner, Hunt, Motown, Zavailla, Samac, Stone, Draft pick, Draft pick/Charles/carter WR-  6   Tmac, XL, Coker, Metch, Horn, Tremay   offense=  25 with 3 draft picks   DL-  6   Brown, Brown, Wharton, Ray, Cam, Hunter/draft pick Ed-   5  Phillips, Nic, Prince, Jones, ST/incoom/hampton ILB-   5  Lloyd, Wallace, Bam, Claud, draft pick CB-    5 Horn, Jackson, Thor, Evans, draft pick/CSN/UDFA SS-  4  Scott, More, Ramsom, Sim   Defense = 25 with 2 picks   ST = known 3+o+d = 53 roster   SO I see only room for 5-6 with factoring in UDFA pool. That tells me to trade up! Bonus the 1st+3rd gets in front of TB yucs. Then use one of the 5ths+2nd to draft another target. That's your two starters and use the 4th, 5th and 6th for the development OTs and what ever the best player are at the pick/DB. The last couple years they have added 2-3 UDFA each year, maybe the same this year too. Soooooooo Im normally 95% trade back, but above made me change my mind. I do not want to waive 5th rounder, I feel thats high with players on the bench.    ?? There's waiver claims too, they have done that each year.
