What's Burns worth at this point?

Burns' PR has been better than his performance.

Since he got here.

For all the money and attention since he got here, you'd think we considered him Julius Pepper's reborn. He's not even close.

He has a run around the right tackle move. And he's got... well... ummm...

But the Spiderman celebration really does rock.

He doesn't have a good bull rush, he can't break double teams, he gets knocked back if the tackle gets the first hit on him squarely, he is a liability in rush defense and only helps if he can pursue a guy from behind and jump on the pile.

He'd be the DE/OLB2 on pretty much any other team.

Great guy, great personality, great guy for the community. He outshines our other DEs/OLBs. But that's mainly because we field more scrubs than a nursing supply store.

Having that draft capital is huge for many many reasons.    Also in regards to this season, anyone objectivily looking at this franchise and roster could see we were (God knows how far off we are now) but we were a couple seasons out from being a top tier team if things went our way.

So in closing fitt fuged up and it should cost him his job.

I agree he has done a poor job selecting players the past 3 seasons, but not trading Burns shouldn't factor into the equation.

This is why we are a team devoid of talent! Don't think that this year's draft class is going to be any different!

----

We had 11 picks in the 2021 draft (the year Scott took over). Only 3 have had a significant impact on the team (though the most talented of the bunch has had his promising career marred by injury)

2022 Draft:

  • Ikem Ekwonu, OT, NC State. Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports. ...
  • Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss. Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports. ...
  • Brandon Smith, LB, Penn State. AP Photo/Brian Westerholt. ...
  • Amaré Barno, DE, Virginia Tech. ...
  • Cade Mays, OL, Tennessee.

Ekwonu hasn't played well this year, but he could be having the dreaded sophomore slump. He has shown glimpses of being a competent starter at time. Corral isn't even in the league anymore. We traded picks to move up to get him and left Sam Howell on the board even though he lasted until the 4th round. Howell has shown signs of being a legit starting QB.

2023 Draft

  • Round 1 | Pick 1 overall (from CHI) Bryce Young, QB, Alabama.
  • Round 2 | Pick 39 overall. Jonathan Mingo, WR, Ole Miss.
  • Round 3 | Pick 80 (from PIT) DJ Johnson, EDGE, Oregon.
  • Round 4, Pick 114 overall. Chandler Zavala, G, NC State.
  • Round 5, Pick 145 overall. Jammie Robinsons, S Florida St.

I don't see any sure things in this draft class. We're hoping the first two can pull it together by season's end. We gave away picks for DJ Johnson who has been inactive for several games. People were disappointed with Zavala's play before he got hurt yesterday. I don't even know if Jammie has seen the field this year. It's not looking like this is going to go down as one of the all time best draft classes in Panther history.

At this point I wouldn't trust Fitterer if he had 3 #1 draft picks heading into a draft. At least Marty Hurney had a track record of nailing those first round picks. You know, I'm starting to really wonder if our GMs are being fed bad intel by the scouting 🤔team.

    • Give me Anthony Hill Jr or give me death
    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
