Peppers: “Anywhere is a potential landing spot.”

He may be franchised again, but like last year we can't trade him unless he signs the tender which means we can dump him wherever we want. He won't sign because he doesn't want to end up in Oakland. Period.

I hope Hurney learned from last year, either sign a long term contract for reasonable money with incentives, Franchise Tag him, or just let him walk. But whatever the decision is, do it early so we know what the plan is before the draft. We don't want to wait until July again for the drama to be resolved holding the entire Franchise hostage in the balance.

QFT and that's all I got say about that.

okay....off to look at women in nylons...

Negotiating 101: Don't tip your hand in any way or indicate that you have any emotional attachment. Peppers said exactly what I would have told him to say if I was his agent. If he says "I really don't care about the money, I just want to stay in Carolina" then that puts him and his agent in a much weaker position when it comes time to make a deal. Peppers may sit up every night and pray to remain a Panther, but when asked he will have this "I could take it or leave it" attitude, just as he should.

Peppers is honestly too expensive to keep. He is 30 now and entering the age of physical decline. Signing him to a long term deal would be a mistake for the Panthers. Or did they not learn their lesson with Delhomme? Well you can't really compare the two because Peppers played great this year, but the fact remains he isn't a young buck anymore. If the Panthers knew they had a trade partner for him, then franchise him and trade him. Otherwise, thanks for the memories, you were one of the all-time great Panthers. Too expensive to keep, just my opinion.

The truth.

Unlike last season the ball is clearly in our court. If Pep doesn't sign a long term deal this season...He won't ever get another one. If we Tag him this season he'll have a great pay check but then 2011 he will be without income. I seriously doubt anyone is going to pay him during a strike season. By 2012, He will be 32. No one will give him a deal longer than 2 yrs. So Pep needs to decide this season. Does he want to hang around and finish what he started or move on and see if another franchise is closer to the SB than we are. (IMO we are real close)

Go Panthers

Honestly, I have no idea what is going on with the man, the myth, known as Peppers.

I don't see how anyone could. We have no idea what he's thinking. One thing I do know... Time tells tales, no doubt.

We can speculate for the next 6 - 9 months. No one has any idea... I'd love to see him come back if the F.O. thinks he is worth it and can come up with a decent contract. Then again, I'd love to see the F.O. make a sound decision whichever way it go.

At this point, I'm willing to say I have no f**king clue as to what is going on behind doors.... And I'm willing to bet every single person here falls into that category at the end of the day.

There are strong reasons why I would keep Pep.... There are strong reasons why I wouldn't keep Pep.

At this point, there is a reason why I'm not the HC or GM.. and I sure as hell hope the guys getting paid to be HC and GM are worthy of the payment they receive to make those decisions...

Edit: With that said, this applies to the entire off-season.. There are a lot of things that need fixed. mofugas better get to work. :P

    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
    • There's a reason Greg Maddux was never a flamethrower but still one of the most feared pitchers of all time, because accuracy beats velocity far more often then vice versa. Once you exceed a certain minimum capability, you can thrive with extreme traits elsewhere, its not strictly about power in any sport but powerlifting.
