should have drafted the guy who will torch us this sunday. Josh Downs.

You mean the guy averaging 59.1 yds/game?

Odd thing to be afraid of. Especially since he might miss the game with injury.

I have a much more impactful miss. How about 5th rounder Puka Nacua? 3rd in the NFL in receiving yardage. Now that is a miss.

Yeah and it's painfully obvious that it isn't all personnel on that OL. Each player individually played better for the previous staff. They literally just look confused and not on the same page too much in the game. You see it with the TE's, the RB's....our pass protection is just not good.

Ikey is an easy target but almost everyone has been having mental lapses and errors.

The WR's just seems like more taking these square pegs and hammering them into round holes. If you know you are struggling with separation, why are you running some of these plays? Why are we not trying everything possible to scheme people open instead of relying on our dudes to just line up ans beat the guy in front of them? Not saying we don't do that but we aren't exhausting all efforts to make this as easy as possible for what we have.

To me that is the biggest theme on offense so far this season. Mismatched parts and not trying to make it as simple as possible for the what we do have. Stop trying to pretend these are perfect parts.

To be fair last year we weren't a top pass blocking unit, we were a top run blocking unit. The run game scheme change doesn't play to the strengths that we had with these guys last year and they are getting exposed in both the passing and running game because of it. Now we also have had revolving doors at both OG spots and only recently have we had serviceable play at those spots. Combine that with Icky and his mental lapses that continue to put him in bad situations during pass plays and yea it's not hard to see why they've underwhelmed so far. For as much as BC is overlooked not every piece on the line has to be pro bowl material, just serviceable and BC gives us that when he's healthy. Same with AC. These other guys....not so much but Throckmotton has been improving these last few games...I think.

The whole league missed on him though. I think he was talking about players projected to go earlier in the draft who did go earlier in the draft.

BTW, 60 yards per game is a 1000 yard season.

Yeah I am not scared if Downs this Sunday. Maybe if he has a real QB in a few years and improves. There is nothing he has that really concerns me.

    • this     I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will run up their blood pressure to get to the grocery store 30 seconds faster or are racing to get to work like it won’t be there at 8:02.   The only thing I’ve ever done that I think added more years to my life besides quitting smoking, was to learn to go with the flow behind the wheel.
    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
