Is loosing Peppers going to be that bad?

Ok I've noticed everyone freaking out about us loosing Julius Peppers but is him leaving going to be that bad? I dont think people realize some of the positives that will come from him leaving. Dont get me wrong Peppers is one if not the best defensive ends in the NFL but his salary is too high. We have three other good defensive ends, atleast in my opinion. Brown could end up being a stud. He played well considering his playing time, and we dont always give rookies a bunch of playing time. With the money we save we could get a good not great defensive end and even get that wide reciever we always wanted. Think about pastteams that have lost key players and yet be more succesful. Now remember Johnson is starter material, Brayton is our other starter and Brown has potential, If we loose Peppers we could use more subs on the Defensive line and since we already have a lot of depth at defensive tackle and possibly we could convert one of them to a end, maybe. I dont know the upcoming free agents we could get but we always have players we can trade. Osi Umenyiora wants out of NYG and I think he will be a great addition. Correct me if Im wrong but Peppers is just one player, for his price we could have two really good players. What would you prefer?

Its a good discussion point, but its been brought up a lot on this forum. An appreciated courtesy is to check for related threads on this subject before creating a new thread on it. Please do that in the future. Not a big deal, just thought I'm mention it, because the forum will work better for all of us if we take the time to put our thoughts where they are shared with others(where they belong).

Yes, Peppers makes too much money.

Yes, we should let him go, knowing his salary could be used in multiple positions.

BUT, it doesn't apply in an uncapped year. The money alone is not prohibitive the Panthers, its the cap restriction. So the question is, how imminent is an uncapped year in the NFL?

Not everyone on this board thinks losing Peppers is a bad thing, (I do).

Just b/c you have extra money, does not mean players will necessarily sign here.

Our defense will drop a notch without Peppers.

Again, a post that could have been put in the dozen other threads. But hey, at least you know people read it by starting a new one (or at least a sentence or two).

Well, we will see if he gets the tag starting on the 11th, but I doubt it, and no player is worth 20 mill a year, hell 16 mill for that matter. Then he may get offered a contract.....only time will tell, if he'd sign for 12.5 a year w/incentives...sure, love to see him stay, but any higher than that.....nope, thanks for the memories.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
