Josh McCown beating out Matt Moore...

i don't think either will be gone next year.

mccown had been on fox's radar for quite some time and grabbed him first chance he could. mccown has a ton of potential. i used to say that mccown is the backup while moore is getting groomed. that may still be the case but i would feel good with either one.

Bingo we will have the smae three Qb's next year so it is a moot point. I think next year will be Jakes last so McCown and Moore will battle for the starting position in 2010.

Doesn't excuse bad decision making.

It also doesn't mean he can't be a capable QB, or even a pretty good one. Preseason has to always be taken with a grain of salt because the plays are not called like a game.

Give him time and I think he will be a pretty good QB. If he hadn't done well in those games at the end of last year we wouldn't be being so hard on him for preseason and McCown.

From Scouts Inc.

McCown is a seven year-veteran out of Sam Houston State that was originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round of the 2002 draft. He was signed by the Raiders prior to the 2007 season to provide depth and ended up starting nine games. He had a QB rating of 69.4 while throwing ten touchdowns along with 11 interceptions for the Raiders before being replaced by rookie JaMarcus Russell. He will hold some value to the Panthers as a backup to Delhomme and can start in case of an emergency. He is an excellent athlete for the position and possesses ideal size and arm strength. He has the capability to make virtually any throw they want him to make and can hit the small window in zone coverage. He plays with a lot of confidence and can overestimate his ability to thread the ball into tight coverage causing him to throw the occasional interception at the wrong time. He can be very streaky with his accuracy and appears to panic when under pressure too often. He will bail out and scramble sooner than he needs to and does not do a great job of keeping his eyes downfield once he gets flushed.

and Moore

Moore has adequate size and is a functional athlete who can step up in the pocket and sidestep defenders to buy time. He lacks the overall speed and elusiveness to be much of a run threat when flushed but is not a sitting target, either. He has decent arm strength but will struggle to throw the intermediate outs or deep post-corner routes. He understands football and can pick up on schemes quickly and won't cause problems as a backup, and he is capable of finishing a game or spelling an injured starter if needed. He is accurate on most throws and shows good timing with his receivers. Moore still needs some work on reading coverages and recognizing blitzes and stunts, but he is a quality backup behind Jake Delhomme.

I guess the main thing is McCown has much more game experience than Moore so the way the team is now, he'd be preferrable in a pinch. Long term, fans would hope Moore would have more potential, but that may just be wishful thinking. Jake's contract goes through 2009, but ideally the front office will want to keep him a few years beyond that. Realistically, I don't know if either of them will be on the roster by the time that happens.

I will take McCown and Moore over Harrington anyday.

BTW, I watched a couple of McCown's games when he was in Arizona, and I thought he actually outplayed Warner at the time. Anyway, he has a good bit of game experience, but he has never been in one system long enough to really get settled into a comfort zone. Not to mention the fact that he played behind one of the worst O-lines in the league when he was in Oakland.

As for Moore, he is still young so I'm not really worried that he had a couple of tough outings in the pre season. IMO, he still has plenty of potential.

Agreed, with the exception that I think Jake plays two more seasons (conceivably more).

My opinion for a long time has been that McCown is the transition and Moore is the future. I'll likely still believe that until I see something indicating otherwise.

    • I used to think Juan was a Zod alt. Agree he's a great poster.
    • Hawks said nah we good and sent him to the shadow realm aka the Wizards. Cold blooded. I mean they're 2-2 in a series with a young up and coming Knicks team largely through 34 year old CJ McCollum. Even if they ultimately lose the series at least they are there and have something to build on. I think Hornets fans are just beaten down and lack the objectivity to assess the situation. They think we are going to get so much worse if and when we finally change gears. Worse how? We've already been a lottery team for years now. We've already been looking to win our first playoff series in about a quarter century. We already can't get past the play in and in failing to do so we have completely embarrassed ourselves twice looking like we don't even belong. Honestly there is absolutely no excuse for a team like the Magic to be more competitive and successful than us in the playoffs. Absolutely disgusting. But that's just me. I was fuging lit when we got the Hornets back in Charlotte but that is old old news. It's time for these boys to get into a playoff series. Enough is enough. If they can't do it for 2026-27 then they need to make wholesale changes regardless.
    • Not one single pick that is asking me why we drafted a guy in the first place. It was a guy we needed and/or a guy that had certain traits making them stand out. Best of all, I feel everyone we drafted are capable of stepping onto the field this year and have a meaningful role (even Kuwatch on special teams). Obviously, nothing is guaranteed but I'm not seeing any huge flags on guys because they're risky projects or massive overreaches.
