no truer words ever spoken -----prevent defense and prevent offense are the worst things ever created-----like herm edwards said you play to WIN the game.....not to not lose

Just so no one gets confused:

Win = Not Lose.

They are synonymous. I get the idea, but jesus, can we get over this fad of "playing not to lose"?

I've wondered time to time if things are rigged and play out certain ways but there weren't bogus calls or obvious things wrong with tonights game. To me if anything you got a look at a Colts coach who was out of his element and didn't know how to handle a game that didn't play out to their script. The Colts defense of old showed up and with the Saints getting the onside kick to start the 2nd half they won the number of possessions battle, Peyton throws an int and it becomes +2 Saints. As far as the articles showing up on ESPN do you think they type those things up within 5 minutes of news? For big events they have the most likely results typed up ready and whichever plays out gets posted, I'm sure they had a Manning MVP and Colts Super Bowl Champs typed up as well. Go to Africa sometime, theres kids over there wearing Carolina Panther Super Bowl champion clothes because they make them up for both teams before the game. Bottom line the Saints won and they were the better team tonight and thats the way it goes, next time maybe the Panthers can get it together and get back to the big game.

Why the Colts lost...

1. Garcon drops a first down catch with Manning on a serious roll...Manning doesn't touch the ball again for 70 minutes.

2. The Colts number 81 has the onsides kick bounce right to him. Even though he's number 81, apparently he has no hands.

3. The Colts coach makes a ridiculous call going for a 51-year old field goal with a 51-year old kicker.

4. Indy's defense wore out, plain and simple.

You hit the nail on the head!

The Colts blew several opportunities (onside kick, Garcon's drop, Wayne's flub on the deep comeback route, a couple dropped/missed interceptions) and it was a cleanly officiated game overall. Even the call on the two point conversion was sound. It wasn't as bad as the Vikings game, which in retrospect did have awful officiating but was no worse than some other games I've seen and wasn't nearly as heinous as people made it out to be.

If anyone could understand this game it should be Panther fans.

Here you have a team (Colts) that should win by 2 touch downs but

they get drawn out of their game plan and their head coach just stands

around hoping it all works out all right. You don't win games when your

defense is on the field all night especially with such a small lead.

Point is the colts were out played and out coached period.

    • PJ's completion % was 63% when starting games in Carolina.  Which I believe is better than Bryce when starting.  And again, 4-3 as the starter here and the LONE QB Carolina has been able to actually win with in the Tepper era.  If you ask a gambling gunslinger to come into blowouts.....they are going to go down in a blaze of glory.  Which he would do.  Yeah, he isn't good.  And gunslingers are supposed to have rockier stats than checkdown QBs.   So....why does PJ Walker have a better comp % as a starter than Bryce Young.  And for every knock you want to make about PJ, you can find something or a skillset that PJ does better than Bryce.   I didn't say PJ had good field vision.  He doesn't.  Tell me about Bryce after he comes off the first read lol.  Let me repeat, PJ Walker is not a good QB.  He is NFL depth and an in house arm.  Bryce Young doesn't belong in a convo w/ Jake and Cam.  He belongs closer in a convo with the backup caliber QBs Carolina was forced into playing.  Which isn't just PJ Walker.  But Kyle Allen.  Moore.  Guys like that.
    • Oh I see what you meant by memory. I will trust my memory, I have looked a a lot of those ball charts for Bryce and they trend a general pattern. They thing that has changed that I have noticed more recently is the reduction in the bunching of behind or at  the LOS passes over to his right.  Aside from the quantity of throws recently since the running game has become a more dominant factor.
    • Yes but you basically said you are going from a quick skim of those charts without doing the same for Bryce and/or Andy. So you are going memory vs. snapshots. That's not going to be a very comprehensive analysis.
