I agree as well, Jim Caldwell looked like a deer in headlights to me most of the game. I didn't see any emotion, I didn't even see his lips move. Does he make any decisions or direct anything? He looks like he just fills that spot of head coach to me, I think once we see Dungys staff dwindle down and go for other jobs that franchise will start to go down hill.

The bottom line is not a single one of us know of Caldwell's day-to-day duties and responsibilities within the organization.

What we do know is that he led his team to the Super Bowl in his first year as a head coach. You could say that anyone could do that with Peyton Manning as signal-caller, but then you'd have to denounce Dungy as well.

Were you to poll Huddle posters prior to the game, I think most would say that Peyton Manning is one of the greatest at his position and that Caldwell is a promising new coach.

Funny how one game can sway the opinion of the masses so easily.

i'm not saying he's a moron or anything. but it's clear where the battle was won tonight.

Oh yeah, I forget Seifert led the Panthers to a Super Bowl in his first season. The comparison seems apt now.

Well no one can disagree that for being a rookie head coach, getting to the Super Bowl is a major achievement. He was almost the second rookie HC to win a Super Bowl with Tony Dungy's old team. But then again, Caldwell has did nothing apparent in that game to try and WIN the game. The Saints pulled out all the stops. That onside kick was awesome. I love that kind of stuff and that's what makes football exciting for me. The guts and balls to do what you gotta to win the game. Colts just relied on Peyton to make the plays when they needed them, and his only mistake of the game was the one that sealed the deal.

So someone else built Seifert's teams for him, and yet he managed to lead his team to the playoff's in all but one of his years coaching the team?

And had a winning record EVERY SEASON at that. Didn't hurt that Bill Walsh left him a solid organization...but after Seifert left, the 49ers were never the same.

ok seriously let me explain something. walsh built the team. he established it. seifert maintained it.

some coaches are capable of building great teams, just like some leaders are capable of building great empires. these are few. some coaches are capable of maintaining a great team. these are more common, but still valuable.

i'm not saying seifert sucks. he did well with what he was left with in SF. he had nothing here and was not the type of guy to build from scratch.

the comparison is walsh to seifert like dungy to caldwell.

he's maintained the ship but it's still a step down imo. and it was obvious tonight as two teams that are nearly identical squared off and peyton's staff simply outcoached him.

      Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.

      Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
