Trade Possiblility-- Jake Delhomme to Buffalo (pure speculation on my part)

Buffalo Bills coach Chan Gailey said today that he's interested in acquiring a veteran quarterback.

"This is a quarterback-driven league at this point," Gailey said. "It hasn't always been that way, but it seems to have become more so in the last decade or so. You have to have a quality player there. It does not have to be a big-name player. You just have to have quality production. That's the decision you're trying to make."

Tim Graham of ESPN.com reports that Gailey acknowledged the rumors that the Bills are interested in trading for a quarterback, including possibly acquiring Michael Vick in a trade with the Eagles. But Gailey said he hasn't finished evaluating the three quarterbacks he inherited, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Trent Edwards and Brian Brohm.

"The staff got together completely yesterday," Gailey said. "We've been spending the last day and a half going through the evaluation process. I've looked at them quite a bit but I want the rest of the offensive staff to look at quarterbacks and let's get a good evaluation of where we think we are today and where we need to be. . . . Before we get to the first day of free agency we'll have a good idea of where we need to be."

Video of Gailey's press conference today is available at BuffaloBills.com.

aren't the bills already a joke? thats why they should do it. im sure at least 1 person will kill me verbally for the sake of a one-liner. i wonder what kind of picture responses i will get?

I wish they were stupid enough to do it, trust me. But nobody, and I mean nobody in the NFL would trade for Jake.

I wouldn't be surprise if it is Vick. After all, he did sign a one year contract with the Eagles & I'm sure he want to be a starter. With how McNabb will be a starter again with them next year, Vick might be the guy Bills could look. Even thought Vick is hardly a QB, but other in the NFL think so. :P

Anybody that would trade for Jake and his contract would be laughed out of the NFL, IMHO.

that's the problem right there - his contract. if he were at a pay-grade equivalent to his production, he'd be the kind of vet that'd be brought in for a few looks... but absolutely nobody would be stupid enough to eat that contract.

    • It's definitely a historical issue at QB but to be perfectly blunt, we also don't do a good job of really developing almost any position if you look at the last decade or so. I tend to be on the side of that being far less a development issue than an evaluation deficiency.  I think we are in the situation at QB2/3 recently due to the overall roster being absolutely abhorrent and the QB classes being quite thin. It is harder to justify another Matt Corral(or several) when you can potentially get a real two deep contributor at other positions.  But, it was a lot of hard work to get to the point where are roster is so incredibly bad that luxury picks literally are not in our vocabulary.  This is the reaping what you sow portion of our history.
    • That is what I meant about our front office. They are like someone filling out a March Madness bracket based on preference of uniform colors and mascots. There's no rhyme of reason to some of these fugg'n mind numbing decisions they make.  They go all in on these flimsy-@ss prospects and are gun shy when it comes to more solid prospects.  It's literally maddening and the reason I stopped being so emotionally involved in this team. Heck the only reason I'm active on the board today is one, it's my day off and two, it's cut down time.
