Panthers Must DO's To Rebuild!

1st: Cut QB Jake Del-oops. Thanks to the CBA in limbo Carolina is able to take a mulligan on the bad contract they inked w/ Jake and not suffer the financial consequences they would've any other yr w/ a cap in place.

2nd: If u own the rights to DE Peppers trade the guy for picks, if not let the man go it's not worth the headache any more.

Lastly seeing as how this is a perfect year to start a rebuilding fase if need be. If not the draft is deep in OL & DL talent that if u can shore up those 2 lines then you could be very strong.

Carolina already has the stable of RB's, only needs to add a complimentary WR, and possibly draft Smiths future replacement to groom behind him, add a pass catching TE via FA (which there are plenty coming available), and bring in a talented Vet QB (Also plenty could be had) Chad Pennington anyone to hold down the forth while you wait for 2011 to draft your next franchise signall caller, or perhaps u can grad one late in the draft

They are not going to cut Delhomme. Like it or not, they owe him too much money just to let him walk. He can impart a lot of knowledge into the qbs and will be the back up.

We are set at TE. We have three on the roster and they can all catch the ball fine. Since Fox has been here we just dont throw to the TE very much. In eight years that hasnt changed. Do you really think its going to now?

Why is everyone always busting on our TE's? What's wrong with them? They catch the very few passes thrown their way.

We don't need to rebuild, we just need to transition at a few positions like QB, DT, WR and potentially DE.

If there is no cap, then cutting Jake would make sense - but it ain't gonna happen. I believe it when I hear Clayton and others say that Jake will be the incumbent starter when camp opens this year, but I also think it will be a truly open competition and Moore will get the chance to beat Jake for the starting job. The concern here is that there have been questions about how Moore practices, the rap on him is that he's a "game time" player and is not particularly impressive in practice. If Moore thinks he has an honest shot at the starting job, he may become a better practice player.

We need to identify who the starters will be at DT and that may mean we transition Kemo out. He's decent, but he's not worth the $ we owe him and we have a surplus of DT's at the moment.

I love Moose, but it's time for us to replace him at the #2 WR spot. That may mean brining in a FA # 1 and pushing Smith to # 2 or it may mean drafting a # 2 but a 37 year old WR cannot be part of our long-term plans and so far Jarrett hasn't convinced us he can be that # 2 guy. It's not to say he can't, but we are so thin at WR right now we need an insurance policy.

If we let Peppers walk without receiving any compensation, which I suspect is the most likely scenario - then we need to either hand Brown, Johnson and Brayton the keys or bring in a FA like Vanden Bosch or Kampman to allow Brown and Johnson more time to develop. Personally, I'm in favor of going young here given that both Brown and Johnson have shown promise - but if we can get a good deal it would probably make sense to bring a guy like Vanden Bosch or Kampman in as insurance.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
