Kellen Clemens

One guy on the free agent list that some may want to keep an eye out for is QB Kellen Clemens out of New York. This guy has all the confidence in the world that he can be a starting QB in this league and at one point in camp last year, he almost became the starter but obviously they chose Mark Sanchez as their eventual stater.

It also helps that he sat behind a HOFer in Brett Farve and look where Aaron Rodgers is at now. Now don't get me wrong, Clemens is no Rodgers but like Rodgers, he did learn a lot from him.

Now here is the issue with Clemens.... He is a RFA and it looks as if New York wants a 2nd round pick for him.

The question is, is Clemens worth a 2nd round pick?

Now the obviously thing would be to get Moore locked up but it wouldn't kill the team to get someone in to compete with Delhomme and Moore, be it Clemens or someone else

Now I know most will be opposed to the idea but just figured I would mention him and see what your thoughts are about him.

It isn't being for or against it so much as not giving up a 2nd round draft pick (our highest pick this year) for a guy who hasn't shown as much as Moore and wouldn't be an upgrade. With Moore and Jake here, the third spot will go to a draft pick. There is really no room for Clemens.

But one could argue that a draft pick would be more inexperience then him and wouldn't you trust someone who has experience as oppose to another project QB?

One could argue that we can sign McCown and save the draft pick if we are looking for another experienced guy. If we are going to use our second rounder on a position of need I would rather get a WR than a third quarterback.

This

We need a receiver and we need to explore what we have and what can be obtained sans draft pick at the QB position.

But then one can also counter argue that by saying that we don't know what position Carolina would draft with the 2nd round pick and if the panthers were stupid enough to draft a QB with their 2nd round pick, why not use it on someone with experience as oppose to someone who we don't know will actually succeed?

because clemons has had opportunities and has done nothing with them. I've watched the guy play many times, I really wanted to see him succeed. If there was anything there, they wouldn't have drafted sanchez. Brett Ratliff showed far more promise when given the opportunity which is why Mangini took him to cleveland. I'd rather have McCown straight up let alone with a 2nd round pick on the line.

    • It's not sustainable,  although he deserve credit for the win also, as he made clutch plays as he does with every win we have.
    • As much as I would love to sit here and bash on Young.  I can't.   He is absolutely a part of this team winning.  He is the cool hand leading the offense along with the hammer, Rico.  He's making plays on 3rd and 4th downs, that are absolutely helping thus team win.  Is Bryce playing as well as we'd like? Nope. Although he had only 1 week off from a high ankle sprain.   No question he was 100% in the Greenbay game.  I'm not even sure where the team would find a clear upgrade over Byrce.  He is a leader.  In the 4th quarter, he has ice in his veins.  He is a part of why our team is enjoyable to watch again.  Without him, we wouldn't be winning.    Anyways.  Y'all enjoy yet another thread designed to tear down the man.
    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
