Agent: Panther's Having a Firesale, Have Thrown Away 2010 Season

You all are acting as if we've traded our RBs and entire O line.

What we need now IMHO:

Good backup QB

Some decent D linemen who can do more than take up space _ Meeks is on this one I have no doubt.

A #2 WR who is an actual threat

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYERS who have potential as backups - this was HUGE last year as a problem. When other teams take the ball out from 5 yards in the end zone, it's clear we have issues.

Its a great plan for rebuilding after this CBA crap is over and done with. Can anyone imagine how much cap space we will have? Sweet Lord...we will have written off every single big name/washed up veteran on the team (and Peppers) after the 2010 season. We will have more cap room than any team in the league by far.

I still believe that we have not gotten rid of anyone on this team that we cannot do without. Anyone who thinks we should have kept the following is insane:

1. Jake Delhomme's insane contract for another year

2. Kemo's injured achilles/9 million dollar roster bonus

3. Nail Diggs instead of James Anderson

4. Damione Lewis instead of Tank Tyler (is there really a difference other than contract?)

Gross, Deangelo, JStew, Smith, Beason, Gamble, Moore, Wharton, Kalil, TD, Otah and Harris are still on the team. IMO that is a hell of a core group of players to put out there every game.

Not to mention we are going to fill in the gaps with some solid guys from the draft. Get some speed on the perimeter at WR and we are set for next year IMO. Everette Brown is going to surprise some people.

so you we are counting on the draft were we have like 5 picks and no first rounders to shore up or team? awesome!

If they are preparing for 2011 lockout, why draft anyone at all..just trade all your picks away for 2011 picks and guys at the end of their contract so you don't have to sign any rookies to multi-year deals(assuming the lockout doesn't last into the season) while the lockout occurs..

If we sign any free agent to a 2-3 year deal then you know the lockout isn't the top priority in the front office..if we only do 1 year deals and such then I would start to wonder...

One of the most interesting moves to me was getting rid of Diggs and going with Anderson who actually cost more .

http://www.heraldonline.com/2010/01/07/1849125/after-restructuring-contract-panthers.html

Anderson got a third round tender which is worth 1.2 million while Diggs was restructured to $855,000 and extended for 4 years. The restructuring of Diggs and subsequent releasing of him less than 2 months later suggests to me that this apparent change in philosophy happened in the past 4-6 weeks. I wonder if when we decided to let Peppers go, we didn't just say the hell with winning now and just rebuild it all together.

So releasing Jake, Diggs, Johnson, Lewis and Kemo and allowing Brayton and Muhammed to walk is a "fire sale"?

So far, the only impact player we've lost is Peppers. Jake was an impact player last year, but in the wrong way.

Like many teams, we're using this uncapped year to clear out these older, expensive guys out for younger promising talent.

Bingo... and remember... this is an agent speaking about a "firesale". Agents are like the high school gossip girls of football. I hardly put any stake into what a damn agent says about how a front office is handling an entire team.

actually us and the redskins are the only ones making these types of wholesale moves. not excellent company.

What's funny is that they're lolrebuilding.

We're reloading/getting leaner and meaner/other cliche.

All that young talent we've been holding back? Psh. Superbowl, baby.

uhhh, to those saying Hoover wasn't an impact player.. have you seen games? He is a MAJOR part of our running games success. I can handle the loss of every player(Damione Lewis confuses me, but he is just average so it doesn't really bother me.).. but releasing Hoover really pisses me off. Fiametta is NOT ready to take the reigns as #1, Hoover was still a really good blocker.

you mean all that young talent that we just acquired last year, that played all of about 10 games combined and is coming of ir? that young talent?

When they trade away an impact player like Steve Smith or a good young player like Williams, Stewart or Kalil for picks, then maybe we can start taking the "fire sale" idea seriously.

Until then, as long as its older and/or expensive players, I'm not buying it.
