I'm not going to say we must/need/should sign him. Long term it makes it hard to sustain if everything fell into place. Too many holes to fill just in 1 year. Too many staff questions too. If everything worked sure be a great story for all.

So to work a lot must happen.

If we could flip Bryce for a low 1st/2nd,  it's not an atrocious idea even if it's a 3 year rental as you take swings later years at QB. The additional pick would need to hit (id eye DB/rusher with the extra pick)

We don't know what we have with mingo/smith/tmj. MANY are down on all of them. I have issue with last year as judgement on them. Concepts, QB, line all really made that a really hard eval. Still would like a rook this year and move chark money somewhere else.

Our line looked better when we had more than short concepts in 2022 and the outliner Dalton game. Still need more out of the interior parts though. There are 4 centers this year that have high floors and should not all go before our 3rd. This year is LOADED at OT get one! Kick icky inside and sorted a lot. Also we have depth/starters that can comeback and fill the interior too 

With a full load of picks, team have gone worst to 1st in the NFC South fast, and rebuilt fast. 

With HC connections, the promise of Russell on a cheaper deal could pull a Evans. That pairing with AT looks a lot different than the trash now. With a top pairing Russell should look manageable.

This doesn't fix the leaky D though. I think some of that is horn and lack of a 2nd pass rusher. Would also need to find a true NT if we want to keep with the 3-4. Also have to retain burns and luvu to have any chance.

 

Overall, it's 1 in a million it works for the big prize. Think it puts playoffs as the expectation, for better or worse. 

I wouldn't do it but the Teppers swing big so who knows.

If I had a late 1st/early 2nd I'd take my chances in the draft versus trading for Bryce. At least those draftable QBs have the intrigue of not having spent a year on an NFL field looking like trash. Hell, of the Commanders go QB at #2 I'd try to get Howell for a mid-rounder. You can fix turnover issues a lot easier than you can fix lacking high level NFL talent issues.

I would be willing to bet there is some team out there with a late first or early second who feels they could potentially fix certain issues of his just by his name recognition alone. That and the fact that his book isn't completely shut yet and teg verdict is not completely known on him could very well get us a late first or early second for him. If that offered was thrown out I would have to very seriously consider it no matter how much I would get laughed at for drafting him one year and flipping the next.

There have definitely been a lot of guys who have seemingly lived off of draft status alone for quite awhile in the NFL.

Eh, Howell is a traditional gunslinger and those guys are not as high demand in the modern NFL(see Jameis Winston, Trubisky, Wentz, etc). The outliers are guys like Stafford or perhaps Mayfield to an extent. 

Howell would sort of have to re-invent himself to be a long term franchise QB, IMO. Which, that is through the lens of the modern NFL. He's young enough to where perhaps that aggressive high risk/high reward style of play becomes more acceptable in the future.

Most modern NFL offenses seem very much more TO averse than at some points historically. Hence why that style of play seems to be less in favor.

All that said, I would definitely take Howell for a mid-rounder. TBH, at this point I'd rather see a Winston or Howell type than I would whatever the fug Bryce Young was doing last year.

I think Bieniemy just put way too much on a second year player, 1st year starter. Then Washington's D was atrocious putting even more pressure on the offense to produce. Bieniemy kinda showed why everyone has passed him up repeatedly. The guy just was not a good OC when he actually had to run an offense and not just hold a clipboard for Andy Reid. Howell definitely has a gunslinger mentality and went full YOLO down the stretch trying to play hero ball on a bad team.

If Bryce were not with us? I would just run with Dalton this season. If we have Bryce still then of course him and if he is not cut out for the NFL then let him lead us to his replacement with a high draft pick.

Other than that, I have no idea at this point. Justin Fields will probably be available but I don't think he is a world beater currently or maybe I'm wrong on him and he will play better on a different team if he is traded this offseason. 

I would consider also trying my luck with a draft pick late too on day 3 just to see if they could develop and we could get lucky. Worst case maybe we find a young good quality backup.

I’d take Russ for vet min. We could always move him to a QB needy team later on, and he could be a quality spot starter if we keep him for the season. No reason to waste more years of other players careers because our QB play is lacking. Dalton was a Reich pickup so I’d honestly let him move on. We don’t gain much in age but a QB the HC and offensive staff is very familiar with could help. Gives a legitimate option for if they come to the realization that Bryce isn’t it. Maybe Dalton could fill that role but I have much less historical faith in Dalton than I do Russ.

      The league would protect him.  The amount of poo Jerry Jones has had exposed and got away with?  The amount of poo Stephen Ross has got away with?  How long Dan Snyder got away with essentially fuging sex trafficking employees and poo???????  Taking down JR was a hit job.  You think the other 31 owners, especially the older ones aren’t blathering, blatant, ignorant ass, bigoted rich racists who have committed far worse things than Blue Jean Fridays?  The ones I named above have DEFINITELY did worse than what JR was accused of.  And do you think guys like Steve Smith would’ve been viewing him as a father figure if they felt that’s who he was?  JR pissed the league off with that last lockout situation and they made him pay.  They lined a new guy up to join their billionaire boys club in Tepper, and they prolly slid a pretty penny to Jonathan Jones to write the “expose,” to get JR out of here.  Again, all the owners I’ve listed above have been verified on record for doing worse poo, yet they’re still running their organizations, unquestioned.  They hand-picked Tepper long before JR was forced out, so he isn’t going anywhere.  Sadly.  fug the NFL.  (Also, to be clear, it’s always fug racism, bigotry, and sexual exploitation - not ever excusing it.  Just making the point that the NFL isn’t operating under this clear standard of justice applied to each and every case)

      I was still in the throes of a contentious divorce and my job at the time had me work on Sundays.  At the beginning of the season I tried to still work around Sundays so I could see our games.  I think after Bryce came back from the benching, I said fug it.  First time in my life I intentionally didn’t watch our games, even through the Atlanta finale.  In the past, even if we didn’t live up to expectations, I would watch to still support and at least analyze player development, strengths and weaknesses, coaching, etc., but Bryce makes all of that a moot point, so I stopped watching. Again, this is asinine,  it if he is retained (still can’t believe this is even a possibility of a conversation due to how shitty our organization has become under Tepper), I will NOT watch next season until he is gone.
