Martin & Godfrey Competition At FS?

Reading Harris interview....

Martin in a short time showed glimpses that we got something here

Godfrey was garbage but got better after injury

Martin moved back to FS, should Godfrey move back to CB so we can have all of our talent of the field at the same time. I think its a pure waste having one sit on the bench like Martin did in the final few games

You can't just throw Godfrey in at CB and expect him to succeed. It may be worth a shot but it's likely that he isn't as good a CB as a FS. Godfrey played at a very high level the second half of the season, and he lead the team (except for Peppers) in caused turnovers. I like rotating Harris, Martin and Godfrey. It's like having two elite RB's. They're not all on the field at the same time but they can spell each other and help each other thrive.

Godfrey might be better at CB....that was his natural position.

I don't think that duo is comparable to the RBs. Both of them are good. Godfrey was a trainwreck for 75% of the NFL games he played in....his tackling improved at the tail end of this past season. Coverage wise....he has always been slow and out of position. We don't need a lesser version of Harris playing next to him. I think Martin would beat him in an open competition.

if godfrey can continue to play at the level he did at the end of the season i expect good things from both of them.

here's one thing to consider. we lost wesley (i suppose he won't be back) so we'll need someone to play the joker role. maybe its one of those two or maybe its harris. i just know that the way godfrey and martin were playing that the idea of having them both in the backfield on those 6 DB sets makes me happy.

godfrey was still out of position on a lot of plays even after he came back from his injury.with that being said i would rather see him at see him at corner.i agree with rayzor on the 6 db look i want both out on the field at the same time.godfrey can play that mid safety role.

Godfrey has played about 25 horrible games in the league and a handful of good games. Martin has been solid in all the games he has played.

The only thing about it is that Sherrod Martin is actually older than Godfrey. Pretty odd, eh?

One has to step up in TC or the preseason.

trade Marshall for a second round pick and then put gamble, captain and martin at corner and then we can have Godfrey and Harris at safety and that way we will have 2 second round picks

Martin says he's better at the FS position. Vision and Range and all that stuff.

Godfrey at corner would work I bet.

    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
    • Sounds like Veesaar is entering the draft. He could always test the waters and pull out and return but without him our big men look like a serious liability. Better do something in the portal. If they don't do something about this portal madness my days as a college sports fan are probably numbered. This bullshit of having a nearly entirely new team every season is gonna get old fast.
