Stop comparing NFL to Military

Lumps

Recommended Posts

there are legit comparisons to be made... anytime a group of men who train together, eat together, travel together, and fight together are put into high stress situations with high emotions for lengthy periods of time develop a sort of brotherhood.

obviously there's no bullets flying (unless matt moore is throwing a pass ;) ) or bombs falling, but to say NO comparison can be made is foolish.

Agreed. Everything you do in the Army is about teamwork, so there are a lot of legitimate comparisons there when it comes to working as a team and building a comraderie that you will never find in a regular 9-5 job, where you only see your co workers for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. So long as people don't literally compare a game to a real shooting war, I see no problem with it.

The game is a metaphor for war, its a territorial sport. The object is to defend your territory and advance on your enemies territory. Starting at the Line of Scrimmage, or 'the trenches'

alot of football is based on Deception also, as Sun Tzu said: "All warfare is based on deception" in "The art of war". Its not just football this is applied to though, every CEO out there probably has a copy of that book.

It's just a metaphor. Anyone who is going to realistically compare football to actual warfare is a dumbass who needs to go out into the field and see what our soldiers put themselves through. Anyone can be trained to handle the physical load, but mental stress in warfare is the real killer.

'Course we could just make them could just spend all day refueling and rearming vehicles when they RTB.

I understand your rant, but I think the only correlation of a military battle and a football game is merely just a metephorical comparison. Such is in the game of chess. It's strategical, man against man, brain against brain and test of will, strength, endurance and skill. If there are ever any comparison made of the two on this board or by any athlete I would definately think that this would be the ideology behind it. Nobody in his right mind would compare sacrificing a life for the greater good to being a millionaire athlete.

Ok I have to vent...lately I have been seeing a lot of this but maybe it has always been this way. I am sorry but these overpaid drama queens who want even more money are nothing like a soldier....

Ok I'm done now. :)

You've got a problem with this?

I'm a retired Chief Petty Officer. I've got to listen to our jackleg, piss-ant politicians being compared to "drunken sailors" in the way they spend the taxpayer's money.

I'll tell you right now. I've pulled some pretty good drunks in ports all over the world. I never saw a sailor, drunk or sober, spending anybody's money other than his own. :banghead:

Those sea-lawyers in Washington, DC couldn't get drunk or laid if you sent them into a Pat-Pong whorehouse with a fist full of $20's.

Thanks for letting me vent.

actually i think it's the ONLY way they can get laid... i've been through the patpong district and literally every ten feet is some geriatric old fug with a 16-year-old girl hanging off his gut... sounds like your sea-lawyers to me :D
