I’m already thinking of a scenario where Johnson balls out  and we extend him another year. Give him what he’s making now plus the 6 mil from cutting Sanders next year

Johnson is gonna want $20M+ next year. That's why they should have drafted Ladd.

his last extension was 2yrs 36 mil. If he balls out i dont see why he wouldnt be worth it. just got to trust our new cap genius can limit the effects. If everyone else in the room is on rookie deals having someone making 22 million isnt the end of the world. Hopefully Mingo improves.

i also wanted Ladd myself, just now hoping for the best and Legette can be the next Deeboo. Take a screen and truck somoene. Bounce off a Nickel on slant and take it to the house. Just think he'll be physically more imposing than half the DB's he'll see out there.

The point is that Ladd could replace Johnson at a fraction of the cost. If Jaycee stays healthy, they're gonna have to make some hard decisions in a couple of years.

Of they are wise in the draft that will become less of an issue.

I have no problems with talking about hypotheticals, but at least keep them realistic.

The Bears were never going to make that trade with us if we insisted on Burns instead of DJ.

They were still hoping Fields was going to be their future QB at that point.  They wanted to get him a weapon and knew there wasn't any great WR options in FA or the draft last year.  The only way they were ever going to make that trade with us was by including DJ in the trade, so it's just a dumb hypothetical, sorry.

They wanted Moore, Burns, or Brown. It was already leaked.

Yea, but I'm rather certain I had read that if we wanted to include anyone other than DJ (given their need for a WR), it was going to cost us an extra first rounder instead of the future 2nd.

Which I don't think we were ever going to do on our end.

Hence why it really was just DJ as a legitimate option on our end.

The Panthers had already turned down the 2 1sts for Burns prior to the Bears trade. Why would the Bears need 2 1sts plus Burns instead of 1 st plus Moore? That make the Burns fiasco even worse. Also the Bears could've drafted a wr or traded Burns for one. No I think the offer was their 1st for this years and a player or this year and next years 1st plus several 2nd round picks if no player involved. The players were one of the 3 you listed. Fitterer decided to give the only offensive skill player we had to draft a qb. What he thought said qb was going to do without someone to throw the ball to is beyond me. But he got to see Burns jerk him around all season so it worked out OK I guess. Fitterer is such a dumbass.

I thought the word at the time was that if it was Burns instead of DJ, the 2025 pick needed to be a 1st instead of the 2nd that we gave up in the deal.

Even then, that the Bears were pushing for the DJ trade because of their need for a #1 WR.

Maybe I'm wrong, it was a long time ago and it's been all bad news since then, but I thought that was what the rumors/insider info was at the time.

And what we turned down for Burns has no bearing on what someone else would give up for Burns, especially as we saw what we got for him in the end, a far cry from that Rams offer.

    • I understand where OP is coming from in general. Personally I don't have anything against Bryce the person. By all accounts he's a great guy. As an NFL QB and as the face of the franchise however I must acknowledge he is enough to make someone stop watching football altogether. If we had transitioned directly to him from Cam and Kyle Allen instead of Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold PJ Walker Baker Mayfield etc I would probably feel more apathy toward the situation but I've been through the ringer already so this is whatever. I will say as nice of a kid as he is his personality is unbelievably milquetoast and it's hard to ignore even when he plays well and wins it just feels like your QB is Steve Urkel and you're always left waiting for the other shoe to drop. It is what it is 🤷‍♂️
    • Not only Bryce... The "all star" coaching staff approach was pushed on Reich because Tepper saw the initial success Brian Daboll was having. That's how we ended up with Thomas Brown (among others) rather than the staff Reich would hav chosen himself. When it comes to football, Tepper is one of those guys who sees someone else having success and says "hey, let's copy that" rather than getting people who have their own ideas. Not just unoriginal, but also stupid 😡 As to Bryce, Fitterer admitted he'd locked in on Bryce the year before and wasn't budging. Pretty much everyone believes Reich wanted Stroud, but why would you expect him to get his choice of quarterback when he didn't even get his choice of assistant coaches? Add in that besides Tepper using assistants as basically corporate spies, Fitterer threw Reich under the bus when Bryce wasn't an overnight sensation. Basically, Reich never had a shot. Now Fitterer is gone, the all star staff is mostly gone, the Giants are a sh-t show and Reich is experiencing a career resurrection at Stanford. And us? Well, we're still here hoping for a miracle 😕
    • Speaking of guys that need to return to school, John Mateer. He has really nuked his stock during SEC play.
