New 7-round Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

Tonight we posted our first 7-round mock draft, including compensatory picks.

http://www.sidelinescouting.net/mock/

Take a look and let me know what you guys think about it. Any feedback about the mock or the site would be great.

If you guys have a hard time finding rounds 2-7, all you have to do is go to the top, highlight “mock draft” with your cursor and there’s a drop down menu with each round.

Bare in mind, it is just a mock draft and even in real life, fans aren’t always happy with their team’s picks.

Not many here including myself are really high on McCoy nor are we fans of taking a QB with our first pick. However with the players already off the board the Panthers are in a tight position there, if this scenario were to play out then hopefully they could find a trade partner to move down in the round and draft someone like Brandon LaFell, or Tyson Alualu where it made sense value wise. Then pick up Jarret Brown in the third perhaps a bunch of us are pretty high on him. Also FB is not a need we have Tony Fiametta on the roster and I doubt we carry 2 fullbacks again (Sutton would be an emergency fullback if anything). I didn't see Armanti Edwards from App State as a pick in your mock, if I glanced over him sorry, if not he will be a Panther in round 6 or 7 our FO is very high on his athletic skill set from what we have all heard. We also need a kickoff specialist somewhere in the draft, Kasay and Baker don't have the leg for kickoffs anymore and we lost Lloyd in free agency. One last thing that caught my eye, Charles Scott RB went to LSU not USC.

Turrible absolutely turrible for three reasons:

One: we are not taking Colt McCoy with our second round pick.... its just not happening

Two: We are not taking a safety in round sixth... we'd be more likely to take another wide-out, corner, de, dt, ot, etc.

Three: Brandon Spikes will NOT fall to the Fifth Round I guarantee it. In fact if he is still available in the fourth(doubtful), the Panthers will take him for depth and talent reasons.

I think Spikes does fall to the fifth round. I actually made a bet with a friend the other day that he goes fifth or later. You simply don't take linebackers that run a 5.05 40 yard dash in the first four rounds. McShay and Kiper were on NFL Live just last week saying he could go 6th-7th round.

also, thanks for the feedback C42, I actually was in a pickle with the Panthers in round 2. I'm not sure if they'd take Colt, but I could see it happening with the players that were available at that point. I've heard that they like what they've seen from Matt Moore and want to give him a full season. But, perhaps they could take Colt and sit him on the bench for a year and let him develop.

I like the idea of Jarrett Brown in the 3rd, he's been a riser this post-season.

I think you and I have a huge disagreement about Brandon LaFell. His college production, route running, and blocking skills combine to make him easily a top 50 pick. I don't think he's a first rounder, but he's good enough that the Panthers could start him in Moose's spot as a rookie and not suffer a drop-off.

McCoy won't work well in our offense. We run the play-action vertical game, and you need a strong arm to sell it effectively. He needs to go to a WCO oriented team to be successful, and the Panthers ain't it. If we took a QB there, and if things shook out like you predict to that point, we would take The Golden Calf of Bristol.

Other selections that would work for us, and which I don't feel would be a reach, are Corey Wooten and possibly Kareem Jackson or Nate Allen, especially if someone bites on Marshall.

For what it's worth, you have Saffold and Pouncey going way too high--Guards don't get picked in the first two rounds. Gilyard is also a lot higher than I believe we'll see him. These are just my opinions...

and FWIW, I don't think the mock is all that bad for the Panthers...

I second the sentiment that we'd likely trade down in the second should the cards fall like that, and even if they are looking like they will fall like that, I fully expect us to move up into the early second round to get someone like Golden Tate or Carlos Dunlap...

Don't rule out McCoy, guys...

Don't rule out any QB for that matter who is rated as a 2nd round choice... I know many are sold that we will take a receiver with the 1st pick but I am telling you, with the recent flurry of QBs that they have looked at (and please don't give me this smokescreen crap), I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Am I saying it will happen? No but it could be a possibility.

Oh well sweet jesus if McShay and Kiper predicted it, than hell it must be right!

barnes over blair white in the 7th, no thank you. as for mccoy i like lafell like cyberjag more than most. not a great panthers draft imo, but a lot of guys i would rather have go right before our picks. 4th round also is a weird one. i want a dt bad, but not owens over mitchell, briscoe or even shipley.

the mccoy pick really stiffles what could have been with the rest of the draft. brown in the 4th is a steal, but with mccoy drafted cant take a 2nd qb, now i understand you cant draft in the 2nd expecting whats going to be there in the 4th, but again i liked lafell so much more in the 2nd than mccoy it wouldnt be an issue.
