Singletary: Hudson a better fit for Panthers

Just curious, why not?

In my opinion, letting Marshall go would go against what we've been hearing from Hurney and Morrison, and would go against the whole "young players we've drafted in recent years must step up and be full-time starters" mentality. I know there's more to it than that, but keeping Marshall seems like a no brainer to me.

Marshall is a dime a dozen type CB there's one you can pickup for not much in every draft.

He's good just not exceptional

marshall looked exceptional when he was the nickelback, but he lost something in his promotion. i don't know what happened.

I would love to keep him, but I don't think he wants to be here, especially with what he thinks he is worth... We'll cut our ties if someone makes him an offer... If they don't, we'll keep him for cheaper than we normally could...

They better get crackin, since the 14th is the offer sheet deadline

Richard Marshall insurance plan...

I'm telling you, I really don't see Marshall here next year...

how do you figure? I mean I could definitely see him not being resigned to a long-term deal, but I think that he will most certainly be here next year. If no team has made an offer yet I don't think they are going to. This close to the draft most teams are focused on just that. Plus the deadline is in like a week

i still only see this guy as a gunner on special teams and that is fine with me. that's what we need. if he can play CB well, then that's gravy. what we need is someone who can bring better coverage on punts and kickoffs. hudson does that.

he does bring a good bit of versatility, though. he can play corner or safety and played in nickle and dime packages. he should take over where wesley left off and probably could be considered an upgrade.

The thing about "Marshall-type CBs are a dime a dozen in the draft" still means we have to spend another pick on a guy that we already have and then help that guy understand our defense...

we lose a pick and wait a year for him to catch up...

I guess I'm thinking that if we get rid of Marshall, we shouldn't be replacing him with the same quality that we are letting go... considering it takes more resources to get a new one than to keep the old one..

now if Munnerlyn steps up that is great.. but for all this to work we need the same quality to replace while the rookie catches up.. seems to me this might require we not play this game and just grab a higher quality CB...

Sherrod Martin is like the Rodney Dangerfield of the Huddle...

We have extended the tender to Marshall, he hasn't signed it... If he doesn't get an offer, he'll sign it...

Then, we have a bargain bin starting caliber CB that is leverage to move around in the draft... Even if we don't get a second rounder, I can see someone sending us an extra third rounder when they don't have a chance at a CB they want in the draft... Marshall could be moved on draft day, much like Jason Campbell probably will at this point...

Teams hold the leverage in trade value right now, as if they don't get offers they want for guys like Brandon Marshall, Richard Marshall, or Jason Campbell, they are banking on the players signing their tenders (Campbell will sign his by Monday, so I hear) and then moving the players once the phone starts ringing on draft day...

In a year where the owners and players are at odds, and the excitement is seemingly on the cusp of emptying out of the NFL before a lockout year, nothing says ratings like a primetime NFL draft with all kinds of crazy trades... I'd even bet that nobody on the Panthers is safe or immune to the right trade (Gross, Smitty, Beason, or any other stud/fan favorite)...

More Marcus Hudson hype?!

Also, I would just like to add that Munnerlyn would get abused HORRIBLY as a #2 in our system. People need to stop overrating his skills...

SHERROD MARTIN.... 2nd round pick... CB that we let play some safety in a time of need...

Considering they both showed promise and Hudson has potential, I would be fine with getting a 2nd for Marshall. But for anything less is just foolish he is a solid starting CB and we have no idea how Captain or Martin would be as a starter.

With only 6 days left for a team to sign Marshall to an offer sheet and no apparent bites or nibbles so far, I think he is quickly learning that he is not worthy of a fat contract based on his talent/production.
