Dave Canales up first

  • Would love to come out and rip 50yd TDs from day 1. Quickest way to win is straight line, A to B, throw it to the guy for a TD. Our defensive scheme is fantastic; they play their leverages and have guys that know the scheme that are able to run. They got one today and have had some near misses leading up. That's a timing issue that will be figured out as they take those shots.

That's exactly what I have been saying about deep passes.  It's a timing issue.  The ability is typically there as I remember several OVERthrows, but the timing with Young and his WRs is what is going to make it work or not.  It's exactly what happened with Tua when he got in sync with Hill/Waddle.  Even if the arm isn't a rocket QBs can usually air it out and hit a certain spot at a certain time.

This also backs @CRA's comment about DC wanted to run an offense that likes to chunk it down the field from time to time.  Canales seems pretty straight forward so far.

Damien Lewis up

  • Been tough dealing with the shoulder + personal issues, but life goes on. Gotta keep chugging.
  • Feels great to be back and flying around with his teammates.
  • Football provides a great distraction from personal issues, feels great to be here with the team's chemistry, energy, and support system.
  • Has never been a talkative guy, but felt it was a right time to say something at practice to get guys going (re: clip of him talking the OL up during Camp Confidential). Feels that guys are binding together and getting good energy.
  • Had no doubt about Canales being able to lead from their time together in Seattle. Dave takes it serious and is the guy for the team. Blessed to be here and grateful that Canales came out and got him.
  • Building chemistry is a process. Come out and keep grinding every week. Excited for the season.
  • Team has to have the right attitude, the warrior mentality: mean, tough, and nasty. DLew is Mean, Austin is Tough, Rob is Nasty.
  • The entire OL group goes to dinner every week. Bryce comes to, but they don't make him pick up the tab solo (everybody contributes). They let the rookies pick where they eat. Protect him on the field and off the field.
  • Icky is getting better. Can see him every day since he's beside him and is coaching him up to get over the hump. Likes what he sees in Icky and can't wait to support him during the season.
  • David Newton asked what the personal matter was because of course he did. Damien didn't want to talk about it, just said that it's hard.
  • The DL is rolling. A'Shawn and DB are over 330lbs. They gotta do their job so that the DL can do their job and get better. DB is one of a kind. Moves laterally like a WR at 330. #54 talks a lot, DLew is gonna get him (Shaq Thompson).
  • Keep an eye on Chandler Zavala. He's a second year guard and has been growing. Don't be surprised if he pops out.
  • Will keep it secret whether or not he pancaked DB. Played each other before in season.

    • We have taken two TEs in three seasons I think, and Sanders may not pan out or it may have been a sophomore slump, but we took a guy last year that was coming on.  I am not in favor of TE in round one and really don’t consider it a high priority in any round.
    • Trevon Moehrig, Turk Wharton, Bobby Brown, Jaelen Phillips, Devin Lloyd, Nic Scourton Giving him 6 starters in 2 offseasons that cost boat loads of money or a 2nd round pick... Not exactly handing the man scraps. The point of the draft is to make the team better. You want to make this about Bryce. It isn't. It's about improving the team. And if anyone can look at our offense and go "we're good", they are lying to themselves. You give quarterbacks weapons. We SCREAMED for YEARS to give Cam some help. But now because we are trying to do it for Bryce, you all are saying we are coddling him because of his "deficiencies". It's a double-standard because you don't like the guy, clearly. But even if he does fail, guess what? The next guy has help too. Win-win.
    • we have 2 solid/above average (however you want to phrase that) wr's, which is more than half the league at least.  We dont need to be blowing more first round capital just to placate Bryce and his limitations.   We have one absolute stud (probably top 10 wr) in tmac and we have a high floor guy with insane potential if he can stay healthy.  Yeah man we are in better shape than the bulk of the teams in the league.  If you need to add some speed or whatever, sure draft in the mid rounds or wait until tc cuts.  Its monumentally stupid to spend 3 straight firsts on a wr if thats the route they go.  ITs just more and more excuses for Bryce, thats where we are at now.    "How can bryce succeed without a big possession type wr (drafts 2 for him), how is bryce supposed to exceed without a speed guy......."   Its fuging never ending.  Give EE some goddamn help on defense for once
