Would you trade for Justin Fields?

Baker Mayfield

Kyle Trask

John Wolford

Old Geno Smith

Drew Lock

Jacob Eason

Russell Wilson

Alex McGough

Brett Hundley

Austin Davis

These are the QBs that Canales has worked with as Pass Game Coordinator, QB Coach, and OC. I get the feeling he prefers pocket QBs.

Was he involved in the decisions to draft any of those guys? Because if not then that assumption has no basis.

No but Dan Morgan had a hand in a few.

I am thinking he wasn't a big influence in QB evaluation given his background. I wouldn't lean on him for that personally.

Out of that list though, it isn't about who decided to draft them. It is about the track record after coming to the NFL and how they are viewed potential wise going forward. An under the radar guy that we could get without mortgaging too much fits our situation right now, probably.

I read some Bucs stuff while looking for the Canales and Mayfield narrative and came across some reporting on Canales comments and also fan and media opinions that the competition in preseason/camp 2023 was very close between Trask and Mayfield. So it might be something to keep in mind. We're gonna need a backup maybe.

Also I remember someone saying that when he came in here there was talk of them wanting to pursue Lock.

Don't shoot the messenger I am just relaying what I read. I don't know poo about either player.

I think the Lock talk was just wild assumptions just because he worked with him. Grasping at straws kinda thing to be the first to report something that could happen.

I am not going to look for what I saw but it was specific to Dan and Dave, so maybe it was kind of real? It was mentioned, I think, that he had already decided to sign wherever the hell he signed and it wasn't an option. It was likely for a backup job anyway, I would guess. Considering the situation they inherited.

Just a tidbit though I am surely not invested in the idea.

This is how a real professional QB reacts to being benched.

So they really benched him. Wilson must better than I figured, I wanted nothing to do with him.

I do have to say, Young said something similar. Like, the ball touches my hands every play... and that he didn't play well enough or something close to it.

Benching Fields is going to backfire.

Wilson isn't exactly a great team guy either. If he doesn't play well players could turn on him quick.

Maybe it will help him. Although I really don't know why but if Wilson is benched it might, to go play knowing the job is yours.

You love some TMac! I think we do defense with our first, but I’d be good with TMac. I haven’t seen a WR his size move like that in a while.

I'm an Arizona alum with a realistic shot of seeing our best player in school history get drafted by my NFL team as we're going to have a shot to take him and he fits a long term major need of ours that we haven't been able to solve, so yea, I'm gonna keep pushing it lol.

But it's like you said, his size and speed/agility combination is just so rare on it's own, when you add the crazy catches he's able to make, he's going to be one the guys pushing to be considered a Top 5 WR in the league by his second contract.  You just don't find those kind of guys very easily, in fact, I could make the argument that a WR like that is maybe the 2nd hardest thing to find in the league besides a QB.

WRs drafted in the middle rounds don't become those type of WRs, but pass rushers, offensive lineman, DBs, all end up seeing 2nd-4th rounders end up as true stars.

You find possession and deep threat WRs in those middle rounds, but not the true elite outside WRs like T-Mac is going to be in this league, and when they have his size, you don't find those guys anywhere outside of a Top 10 draft pick.  You can find WRs like Hunter or Burden later in the 1st or even in the 2-4 round area of the draft, smaller but deadly fast/quick WRs, so I just can't see any argument for taking either over T-Mac for any team.

    • And those targets are mostly going to TMac, who will be a part of the FUTURE of the team. Did it remove the most reliable WR and Bryce's safety blanket? Absolutely. But it's also allowing him to build better chemistry with TMac, Stephens, Horn, Evans, etc. I am pumped to see Coker back and hopefully they can reignite that connection.
    • It's the same thing that made Bryce the #1 overall pick. I've never seen such mass delusion about a football player before. Everyone convinced themselves that the fact that Bryce was below to severely below average in practically every physical attribute for an NFL QB just wouldn't matter because he has everything else you need and that'll more than make up for it. When has such an argument ever been made for an NFL prospect before? We watch prospects plummet every year because they run a couple tenths slower in the 40 time than expected. Smitty had everything you want in a receiver except he was 5'9" so he goes in the 3rd round. That's the way these things generally go. If you check a lot of boxes but leave some key ones unchecked you're not an elite prospect. With Bryce though, the physically limitations were always obvious so it gave more time to be able to build that into the equation and come up with reasons for why he'd be able to overcome it. Now we have all these same shortcomings having shone brightly on the NFL field and we STILL have people trying to convince themselves he'll be able to overcome it while ignoring that our past two wins and his improved play have come while riding the back of RB putting up GOAT RB production over the past two weeks. What changed wasn't Bryce. What changed is that Rico is playing out of his damn mind. Pretty much every NFL roster caliber QB can shine if he can get 200+ yards out of the RB behind him.
