Brian Burns Revenge Game

Pretty typical Burns game. Sack early, maybe get close once or twice and then vanish for the rest of the time.

$30MM saved, y'all. I took so much heat for being the dissenting voice during that 2022/2023 offseason...

Dan Morgan looks better & better as the season progresses.

His draft class has been incredible, and trading Burns to sign Hunt & Lewis was absolutely the right move.

We still need another good draft and FA to pull out of the hole Fitterer left, but this feels so much better than last year

Dropping Burns was a no-brainer and Fitterer's ineptitude rightly or wrongly makes Morgan look that much better for this 101-level move. However, where he does deserve credit IMO is that the money has been spent wisely and that was always the point, to spread Burns' value and get more than the sum of the parts. It was never about 'using the Burns picks to replace Burns in the draft' as a portion of the fanbase liked to clamor.

an early freebie sack, gets sealed off in the run game (by a rookie udfa WR), random injury after giving up long run, disappearing act in the 4th

outplayed by DJ wonnum with half a quad and half the salary cap

He'll have a coming to Jesus moment when he gets met with a pulling Robert Hunt the first play of the game. He will have a typical Burns game where he makes 2 or 3 really good plays but then disappear for majority of the game. People will talk about the 1 sack and a couple pressures but ignore the fact he'll give up 80 or more yards rushing to his side of the football.

The oracle has spoken.

    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
