MOCK - Linval Joseph, DT, East Carolina

48. Carolina Panthers

Linval Joseph, DT, East Carolina

This is the Panthers' first pick of the draft, and many fans have never heard of Joseph. He's 6-4, 328 pounds and ran 4.93 at his pro day. Throw in 39 reps at 225 pounds on the bench and 30 tackles for a loss in 27 college starts, and he helps in the middle where the Panthers' defense is weak.

i don't mind this one so much. i'm calling a DL so this beast looks like a fair pick. i really hope we don't go WR when our DL needs so much work.

Joseph is the true flavor of the month in this years draft. Based on college production he looks like a mid rounder. But after looking closely at the tapes and his measurables, he is become quite the prospect. Still, a lot of it is on potential and not production.

See... there we go again with the DE talk too...

Boy, you all sure are knocking the hell out of Brayton, Brown, and Johnson wanting to go DE so early... At least with my OLB chatter, it doesn't involve a position that we have traded away a future pick to fill, nor anyone that has started there for more than a few games...

OLB, WR, or even G or QB... all before DL is addressed...

The only opposition to my own argument would involve us staying put at 48 and 78, and DL being the BPA... and it very well could be... That is why we have to make some sort of move... up or down... to get the best value from our first picks...

Well, the Panthers have interest in several d-linemen that will go in the first 2 rounds. So ignore that all you want to, but it is a distinct possibility.

That has nothing to do with how I feel about our d-line. Just stating the possibilities.

I agree it is very possible... But not because we are lacking in talent and depth as it is... moreso because it could be best value in our current positioning...

I am still on the Bandwagon for a WR. I just happen to think whoever gets Joseph is gonna have a hellava DT.

If we go DL with our first pick I'll be angry. Let the guys play it out...over the past year we have acquired:

Everette Brown

Corvey Irvin

Tank Tyler

Louis Leonard

Four DL in the last year...stop it already. I am sick of stocking up DL when we have 4 DTs to throw in the rotation as well as 3 solid DEs. We have ONE WR that is worth throwing the ball to.

The bottom line is that this draft is going to suck unless we trade up or get lucky with one of the elite WRs dropping to us. If we take a DT it will be a waste...I'd rather take any other position outside of C and OG than DT.

i don't care about them. i want to have the best DL possible and i don't feel like we need to be relying on those three so much until we are sure. we bring in the best players to compete for the job as possible. DE is not deep for the panthers at all and there is going to be a serious drop off this year unless they get some more help. i would rather that be an older vet but at the very least it needs to be addressed fairly early in the draft. pick up george selvie...that would suit me fine but i still want a solid vet more...just for the rotation.

    • I don't necessarily think he will be moved, I would currently be leaning against that notion. I think a lot will depend on the coaching situation. Carroll certainly can't be thinking about wanting to go through a serious strip down and overhaul, so the longer he plans to remain, the less likely I think Crosby gets moved.
    • I think everyone says Mike Evans because of size, but really they have different strengths and play styles.  Tmac is better on intermediate routes and not nearly as good at contested catches.
    • At this point, it is criminal to go into the 2026 training camp/OTA's with XL penciled in as a #2 WR. The team must upgrade, either through free agency or the draft. If he cannot give 100% effort on significantly less snaps as a #4-6 WR(players like Tremayne have done that consistently) then I don't think you have a player worth rostering beyond the trade deadline. Offensively, we eventually have to upgrade to an NFL starting caliber C. It's been almost the length of time from Gross to Ikey since Kalil retired and we have below average to terrible C play. Love Mays as a BC-esque utility backup but he will never be an above average long term starting C.  The TE room is one of the worst in the NFL but it's a low usage position in this offense, so the investments are likely to be small, if any. I would never expect to see an elite TE in a Dave Canales offense. 100% agree on OL depth. We actually aren't bad there but BC will be gone, Mays is a UFA, Corbett is a UFA and Zavala has been both injured and bad. We have to bolster that depth again or resign guys like Mays and Corbett to keep that depth somewhat stable.
