Kiper grades the Panthers draft a....

The only thing that really pissed me off was the 3 CBs which were rated no higher than 20th and will be cut at some point, maybe not his year, but down the road. We could have got more depth in the trenches and taken maybe ONE of those guys. IF these were selected for STs purposes, that is complete BS.

Picks 48-175-B

Picks 198-249- D

I think Clausen is a joke and will be a 'D' grade at best. LaFell was a good selection at the spot. Can't believe they blew next year's second on Edwards. Like Norwoodl, good production, pass rusher; however might be better in a 3-4. Hardy was a steal in the sixth round. The WR from Baylor was a solid pick for position; but a third WR. Pike would have been a great pick without Clausen; now its worse than the Clausen pick. Plus three DB's I have little info. Got no help at DT or OL, I give the overall grade a C+ at best.

If the only thing Edwards ever does for this team is to add 15-20 yds to our starting position, then he's well worth it. How long has it been since we've seen a return for TD and had an average starting position passed the 25. A dynamic returner will effect every drive. An extra 10yds to start will make an enormous difference.

7 years ago when we went to the Superbowl.

cb and safties that are fast play well on special teams. you can discount special teams all you want, but it is part of the game. did you think we would get an impact DT in the 6th? hardly. there was maybe some guys you could tale a risk on but they more than likely wouldnt pan out. there is more of a chance of hitting a cb or safety in those rounds that could excel at ST. and its not real hard to choose, you mainly need speed. you could get speed by doing WR as well but then they cant tackle so they get there fast but miss and let the team gain yards. plus we might hit on one who can actually play and if we need to move marshal later we will be prepared. I dont mind those picks. of course i dont know much of any of them so im not all that high on them, but they where 6th or 7th round picks.

So, in addition to the STs guys we already had and FA pickups, we needed to draft THREE more? It's not the reasoning I question, it's the QUANITY. Again, I did say I woulndn't have minded ONE, but THREE was overkill.

Nice post and I do agree, but you missed the point.

I leave this short: quanity (not=) quality. Hell, why stop at three? Pike can't play STs, so that was a wasted pick riding the pine.

ONE-fine, TWO-okaaayy, THREE-WTF???

We never had the roster space for SIX 6th and 7th round picks, we picked all the fastest guys left on the board who will spend there summer doing 50 yard sprints at dummies and we'll end up with a couple of guys to make good kicking teams.

Benardeu, Schwartz, Wilson...and those are just the ones the last couple drafts. Yes, 6th and 7th rounders do contribute and aren't just throw away camp dummies; that's what undrafted FAs are for.

Are they long shots? Sure, but you don't pick for the sake of picking. Could the FO have been content and just wanted to focus on STs at that point? Possible, but I highly doubt it.

I thought we had a very good draft overall. However, I thought we should've traded up to get a big DT with decent potential. Meeks has always put a little bit too much stock in DBs. Sometimes, I think he forgets which conference he's in. Or, has our team philosophy changed entirely from "Run and stop the run" to "Pass to setup the run and stop the pass"? Looking at our draft choices one might make that assumption.
