How did he play the regular season? I see you're still not discussing that. You know why? Because it doesn't meet your slowly dying narrative.

He was his division for fugs sake.  With a poo oline and a poo ton of wr injuries. What fuging narrative are you talking about?

Do you think Bryce can carry a bad team on his back?

Yeah I doubt it too. Oh well  we'll see.

Well, I haven't exactly seen any other rookie or sophomore QBs do that either.

No grudge at all. I just find it weird that people are always at-the-ready to praise Stroud, and for them praising Bryce is like pulling teeth, at many times in the same breath.

I was as skeptical of Bryce as anyone after awhile (and still have some skepticism), but you don't basically always here me comparing Bryce to Stroud negatively.

Stroud had one of the better rookie seasons of all time, and had a bit of a slump his sophomore season but is in the playoffs, and stepped up when it mattered to help lead his team to victory.... It's easy to praise that kind of play and success.  Young's had a tougher road but is playing well now. It's harder to hang out hat on his accomplishments - it's still about his potential.

And as to pulling teeth, I dunno man. I don't see it that way anymore. You've got people like Frankw and me saying we're excited for next year and saw real growth.

Meanwhile we've got you coming in and calling Stroud pedestrian and others in the playoff thread trolling after a drive... So the trolling then brings in people to defend Stroud etc...

He's in a shitty division. Every QB and O-line has to deal with injuries. "Oh, we made the wrong pick, blah blah blah)."

Well, he was decidedly pedestrian this past season. Why is it so hard to admit?

The biggest thing Bryce did in 2024 over his disastrous 2023 campaign is pass the eye test. He made plays, played consistent over the course of a whole game, and showed confidence. He moved the offense at times. So I’m cautiously optimistic, but I’ll be full blown excited if we see him perform at the same level  or better in 2025 when the games actually matter.

He had a bit of a slump, sure. But if he was pedestrian, what was Bryce? They had basically the same TD% and INT%, while Stroud had a higher completion %, more yards/game, more first downs / game, a better QB rating, a lower bad throw %, but less success rushing... So meh... They're both young QBs showing different amounts of success but both with promise.

Just regarding Young’s rushing ability .. that is going to get shutoff big time next season

Nah, I seriously doubt it. He doesn't want to run, he'd rather pass. But when he does he makes people miss. It isn't a play design. Interior oline is too good to keep your edge rushers at home. No way to account for the unaccountable. He could rush 5 times or he could rush 0 times and be perfectly fine either way.

I agree with this.  Bryce is very elusive and fast. But he's not going to be someone you spy because of intentional runs. And if defenses start spying him he will have a ton of passing opportunities open up.

We know the situations, including stability, chemistry, coaching, and even wide receiving corps despite injuries. So of course the stats are going to go Stroud's way. That's to be expected. You can't even really compare the two. But what I will say is that if you look at just sheer progress the second half of 2024, the advantage is not so black and white, and that's why advanced metrics have to be analyzed a little more than just basic production. It's also why percentage-based stats are pretty important to study as well.

As for total QBR, which some experts consider the best QB measurement, I'm fairly certain Bryce was ranked higher than Stroud, notwithstanding such a dramatic season, and it also speaks to much better play during the second half of the season.

I was thinking of that option - spying him. But that makes absolutely no sense. You'd lose a guy in coverage. That would be playing into his hands as he prefers throwing in the middle of the field. You'd be better off just delayed blitzing that guy. And if you try to spy him with a LB or DL, then he's not gonna make the play.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
