DT Jon Henderson to be released today

The Falcons reportedly have some interest in DT John Henderson, who will be released by the Jaguars on Monday.

Atlanta just isn't willing to pay more than the veteran's minimum. Henderson did draw high marks as a run stopper in Jacksonville last year, so he should be able to do better. Henderson also has a connection to the Saints, with onetime Jags assistant Gregg Williams on staff as defensive coordinator.

As I said before the draft...and the draft is even more evidence to support my thinking, is the Panthers are happy/content with moving forward with the guys we have on hand as our starters. They may sign a few role players as FA, but do you see Henderson as a role player? I don't. Some other team will sign him to a bigger contract than we'll offer, with more of a role for him.

PC I agree with you most of the time but this guy upgrade your Dline as soon as he signs. He takes Hollis Thomas spot and we keep him away from other teams in our division who have the same needs. I rather have him on the team instead of playing him twice a year.

I never said I don't want him here.

Just voiced my opinion on what I feel the Panthers are doing.

we need one more fatty mcfat pants behind louis leonard, but i'm not sure that's what they want. people have been saying they prefer the smaller dts now. hope they don't get run over. that's all i can say about it. is there a high ranked run defense without a big 320+ starting dt?

Personally, I think Jerry made it known that he would not support much activity except for minimum players during the pre-draft FA period. I think he probably told Hurney to sit still for the most part until after the draft and then re-evaluate the market. If Meeks says "we need him" I have a feeling that Richardson will give Hurney the go ahead to make a competitive bid for one, maybe two FAs above the minimum, only if they are "we must have this guy" type of players. I'm sure Meeks is very familiar with him given his time in the AFC South. But as I've said before, I think the fact that the we didn't draft a DT speaks volumes about how confident the coaching staff is in the players we added at DT in the last year (plus Irvin).
