Classic boom or bust pick..IMO Just reading this old article on Hardy and Talking to some people at Ole miss..I think it will be interesting to see how Baker and Hardy mix. A quiet guy with questions about his effort also a guy that lives in his own world plus Baker who is very vocal to say the least. Could be just what Hardy needs or it could cause him to just turn it off.

Will be interesting to see what will happen.

Orgeron was abrasive and demanding. Hardy was inconsistent and sensitive. It was a recipe for disaster.

Harrington knew not to yell at him, because Hardy would shut down. He took criticism as a personal affront.

"There's no point in screaming at him, 'BOX OUT! BOX OUT!'" Harrington said. "What I'd have to do is pull him aside, away from his teammates, and quietly say, 'Get your butt down there and box out.' You'd get so much more out of him from doing that."

Baker strikes me as a guy that takes a personal interest in the players he coaches... That approach could make a world of difference for a guy like Hardy, even if he yells or gets loud when he makes a mistake. If Hardy feels like he does it b/c he cares about him and wants him to do his best, then it could do wonders for him.

Good read considering it was first posted 18 months ago. I doubt the NFL locker room will be anything like he has ever seen before, but it may just get him to focus on where he is and what he could achieve. That's where the team leaders really make a difference. Sounds like the kid is a natural talent, and he might turn out to be a great pick. I can't help but think about that guy we just left behind........and Ricky Williams.......

He is coming into a Defense that has some good leaders so he should do well. I think you worry about players like that when you dont have leaders. I worry more about him being injury prone. Thats something you cant coach out of him.

With guys like Chris Harris, Thomas Davis, Jon Beason, and Everette Brown I think we have guys on defense with good heads on their shoulders that can really get the team hyped. I'm really hoping that Greg Hardy was just going through a childish phase and sees that if he works hard and plays tough, he can be a star player for this defense and really do some great things.

    • They are the least of Your worries, people on the team want to win.  You have to allow for a winning culture to have an opportunity, if you are the person responsible for creating it.
    • Do you honestly believe this is a team that will even be in contention for a playoff spot this year? To me, if you're not at minimum a genuine contender to make the playoffs, every win you get is a meaningless win in the end.  This is the NFL, it's not peewee league where you just want to win a few games and have fun, you want to get into the playoffs and have a shot at making a SB run. We haven't had a winning season in how many years?   Does "enjoying" a small handful of wins every year really make for an enjoyable season for you? I said it months ago and I'll say it forever, I don't care about winning or losing this year, as we don't have a playoff caliber roster yet and I'm a realist about where we are as a franchise.  I'd enjoy watching the games so much more if the team and Bryce in particular were just showing marked improvement, even if it came in losses.   Because THAT would give me hope for the future of the franchise and the direction we're going. Bryce was complete garbage in Week 1, in Week 2 he was terrible until the Cardinals went into super soft prevent defense and then collapsed gain when the game was in reach, and he was a serviceable game manager today, but didn't make any throws that any college QB couldn't make. This game was a perfect chance to let Bryce go out there and play loose because of the lead, just let him be himself and see if it sparks his college self.  But instead, we went unbelievably conservative with the play calling to help ensure the win, when actual wins and losses are the least of our worries this year, it's figuring out what Bryce can be (fans may be decided, but the team obviously has not yet). I don't want to make the playoffs every few years, I want to contend for SBs. I just don't get anything out of 6-11 type of seasons anymore, they're way more frustrating on the whole to be able to actually enjoy the few wins just because our shitty team got a win for a change.
