On Jamar Williams

Hi, I'm a huge Bear fan, and I just wanted to thank you for giving us Chris Harris back, but after reading through your rather lengthy thread on the matter, I also wanted to give you some positive feedback on Jamar Williams. I'm really happy the Bears got Chris Harris. We needed some intimidation in our secondary something awful. But I'm also really sad to see Jamar go.

Playing behind Lance Briggs, Jamar never really got a shot here in Chicago. He got two starts last year, and in the first against Detroit, he finished with six tackles. He didn't get another shot until Briggs pulled up with injury against the Rams. He came away from that game with 18 tackles! Briggs mysteriously got better by the next game and Jamar didn't really see the field for the rest of the season in regular sets.

Quite frankly, at this point in his career, I believe that Jamar is the better linebacker between him and Briggs. Jamar isn't as physical as Briggs, but you won't even believe his range. In that Ram game, not only did have 18 tackles but he had two pass deflections. Briggs, on the other hand, has really slowed down. He's a liability in coverage. He's the reason that opposing offenses are always able to get that strong side quick slant against us. Against the Rams, however, Jamar totally shut that down. That's where his two PDs came from.

I'm sad to see Williams go, but I'm happy for him. Lovie Smith was just too stupid to give him an honest shot in Chicago. I'm excited to see what he can do for you guys. I think the Bears just might be kicking themselves in the pants in a couple of years, AGAIN. Anyway, thanks for Harris, we needed him, but you guys got a real good player in return.

thank you for the helpful information- I think we can all agree the Panthers v Bears game is going to be really interesting this year.

With Harris you'll get a great guy and a good competitor, he well be a great veteran presence in your secondary which lacked a safety last year and he will be a good mentor for Major Wright

With Peppers.... well....uh..... half the people on here will tell you he is a slack-ass punk who might be gay, and the other half will salivate about his freakish athletics.... the truth is Pep will have some great games and some games where you almost forget he's there..... almost.... but then you remember how much freaking money he makes then you'll get pissed. My prediction though: He plays out of his mind verse the Panthers this year....just a hunch

LOL Jamar Williams isn't better than Briggs you stupid jackass. Is this MikelSmith from the Bears boards? LOL! You dumb f**k.

Wow, what a well researched, well thought out position. Nice to see that your message board comes fully equipped with its own asshole. I guess all boards have them.

At this point in time, I think that Williams is better than Briggs. If we were the Pittsburgh Steelers we would have traded Briggs and plugged Williams in at Will and a couple of years from now everybody would be asking how we can lose an All Pro linebacker and just plug another in. Oh, Briggs is still an impact player, but he's on the downside of his career. He's lost a lot of speed. He is a MAJOR liability in coverage.

Mark my words. You guys are going to be very happy with Jamar Williams. He is much quicker than Briggs has ever been. People might want to poo poo that Williams had 18 tackles against the Rams, but when was the last time that Briggs had 18 tackles against anybody? Never, that's when. Williams has one start at Will and collected 18 tackles and had two pass deflections. You don't do that by being a crappy player I don't care who you're playing against.

You guys are going to be happy with what Jamar brings to the field. The one problem with him though is he does have a bit of an injury history. Nothing major but he does seem to get a lot of nagging injuries. If he stays healthy though, you're going to be very happy. I'm going to enjoy following him on your team. Just trying to give you a head's up.

Yeah the Bears gobble up all our cast-offs and end up empty handed... LOL

I'm sorry to see Harris go, but I'm excited to see Sherrod Martin get some playing time and we needed depth at LB.

Eh, I think the only time we really screwed the Bears was on the Ricky Manning Jr. trade and that wasn't on purpose.

This Bears writer also seems to think we made a good deal.

Williams almost became a starter in 2007, when it was reported the Bears were going to trade Lance Briggs to Washington and Briggs was adamant that he would never play in Chicago again. That never happened, and Williams spent four seasons in Chicago where he played in 51 games, starting three games.

Jamar Williams and Nick Roach were the promising young linebackers who were considered to be solid replacements for the crafty veterans.

I mean, who knows how many more seasons Brian Urlacher has left and Lance Briggs isn’t get any younger.

On the other hand, I’m pumped that Chris Harris is back in the orange and blue, but some reports say the Panthers were ready to cut the starting safety. So, for the Panthers to get the versatile Williams in return is a pretty good deal for them. Williams is expected to be in the mix at the weak side and middle linebacker positions in Carolina.

I hope this trade doesnt indicate that TD isnt healing as well as they thought he would

That's actually something I thought about too. It seems like Fox targeted him as an insurance policy should TD not make it back 100%. I hope TD isn't having injury complications though, he's just too good to not have out there.

:)I hadn't thought about that, but it figures. Sounds a lot like the many asshole Bear fans on the Boards I frequent. Unfortunately, just rooting for the right team doesn't keep people from being jerks.:D Lord knows the Bears have more than their share of them. How did the guy get designated a troll? Was that your moderator? Pretty funny.
