Warren Sapp defends Matt Moore

If Fox doesn't get in his way, I absolutely believe that Moore is poised to have a breakout season. I'm reminded about what was said about Michael Jordan, in how to defend him and keep him to under 20 points a game: "let Dean Smith coach him!"

Just look at how the team responded with him. I'll bet if the New England game had been our 15th game instead of our 13th, we would have won that one too with him at the helm. I'm not bestowing 'miracle worker' status on him, but I AM saying he's a lot better than Jake mechanically and fundamentally, and I liked Jake.

Im sorry dude but did you even watch when Moore was in the game. He made Jarrett,Moose, and Kenny Moore look good. That in its self should prove the point he can win games without Smith. Yes its too early to call him great but what he did should not be forgotten or trashed ether. Period!

Read my post from the other day. Jake's last game was against the Jets. The rest of the season Jarrett caught FIVE passes from Moore. FIVE. Guess what? That happened in the last game. How exactly did Moore make him look better? Jake threw it to Jarrett 12 times. Learn the stats before you get smart with them.

Moose was #2, so your argument is invalid there...he could've caught passes from Cantwell because he's that good. But guess who won't be out there anymore? Moose.

Now, if Kenny Moore has some crazy stats during Matt's time on the field I have hope for our WR core. But I sure as hell don't remember Kenny kicking any ass.

We need a vet.

First of all, Matt Moore did more than just manage the games. . Considering the fact that he was playing in a run first offense, which will not change no matter who is under center here, he was outstanding. Come on man...what QB had a better TD to INT ratio than Matt Moore in those last 5 games?

I can't believe you're worried about him succeeding and getting a big contract. What do you think will happen with Clausen a couple of years down the road if he succeeds? He's gonna want to get paid just like Matt Moore does. What are you gonna do, draft a new 2nd or 3rd round QB every 2-3 years just because you don't want to pay the last QB who succeeded for fear that he will fail after getting paid?

The problem was that there was no pressure the last five games....we had nothing to play for. He could've sucked, and it wouldn't have mattered...it just would've meant that we would have to find a new QB sooner. Now it's a situation where he has one year to play well, and he can score a huge contract. Too many times in the league, you see people perform well in a contract year, and then after that, they fall off once the money is in their hands. Not saying that will be the case with Moore, but I just don't trust the one year experiment. If Clausen was to take over, he would still have 3 years (assuming here) left on his contract....you let him grow into the position. If he pans, you sign him long term. You have your franchise QB, and it wouldn't handicap the team by that point. The problem is that you have a lot of important people who are gonna be UFA (or are eligible to receive contract extensions) next year, assuming that we dont get anyone signed to a long term deal this offseason. People like Richard Marshall, D-Will, Thomas Davis, Ryan Kalil, and people who need extensions like Jon Beason (there are other players also scheduled to be UFA, but I just listed the starters). Most of those players are gonna command top dollar for their positions. Are you willing to lose proven players for a possible 1 year wonder? That's why I think they took Clausen in the first place, because there's no way that you're going to make me believe that Moore wouldn't want anything less that what Cassel is getting in KC. I think if Moore plays well, he will get a big contract.....just not in Carolina.

I don't get how some of you are so high on Moore and are convinced he'll be fine, and can be a franchise QB...yet say Clausen will take over in a few years. If Moore is the real deal, then he's here for the long haul. If he's just filling in until Clausen is ready (if he is), then I can buy it...but I can't buy you thinking we'll have two franchise QBs on this roster. It happens so rarely. My brain is too tired to think, but the best example I can think of is Steve Young backing up Montana. Maybe Rodgers backing up Favre...but in both cases the starter was old. Matt is not old.

Thus the problem this will cause if both are excellent.

I don't think there will be any problems with our qb situation because I think Fox and Hurney already know who they want to be their franchise qb. And it's got nothing to do with Moore not being good enough.

moore is pretty accurate and that is going to help him...thats why he was such an improvement over jake.

there is something that is going to cause him to have more picks next year and will get some receivers hurt...he has a tell and it's pretty obvious.

watch matt moore highlights and see what he does right before just about every throw.

then watch clausen and see if he has a tell.

clausen is mechanically and fundamentally better than jake and matt and he is also more accurate

This is the most ridiculous statement I have heard. College football and NFL are completely different and Clausen hasn't played in the NFL, so you have no basis behind this. This is the kinda poo that Rod Woodson would say lol

Hmm. Moore seems to do a dancing stutter step a lot. You got me though, I didn't see a tell.

Like.. they get really choppy sometimes?

Anyways, I'm not entirely sold on Moore because he played well, but the games were pretty much meaningless..

But Woodson is horrible at making sense.

The Giants were playing for their season. The Vikings were playing for homefield advantage.

Yeah, the Bucs game was probably meaningless. Maybe not though... as you had a Rookie coach trying to win some games.

The only one I'd say was bonified meaningless was the Saints game. And Moore didn't get a huge boost in that game stats wise.

I just don't see how people can say he played in meaningless games for the games he won. The opponents were trying at least half the time.
