QB Analysis by Rip Scherer(Observer Article)

Not sure where the whole Matt bad work ethic thing got started. I remember Dan Morgan on here talking about it last season a bit. It certainly kind of looked like that may be the case given where Matt was placed in the line-up (3rd) and his apparent talent level (1st... IMHO).

No, but you can make a turd out of a PBJ sandwich. It's all in the perspective....

So have any of those three quarterbacks gone on to do anything noteworthy outside of Rip's tutelage? I guess it would be like blaming Ryan Leaf's QB coach for his failure or Jamarcus Russell's for his.

exactly!!! there are more good coaches than players, scherer tried to work with dehlomme on his mechanics and it didn't work cause jake had years of bad habits that were hard to overcome. coaches coach but it's up to the players to take advantage of it.

ya, pike was a wasted pick for our team in particular. only poor pick of the draft in my opinion. who wants 3 qbs on the roster when we already have edwards anyway? qb is a relatively low risk injury position. don't need that much depth. i heard some stuff about them potentially trading pike for a better pick in the future, but i don't see how they're going to do that when he gets no playing time.

Say goodbye to Hunter... I don't see him lasting much longer.

That could be the case or they could keep him on the practice squad another year. In any event Cantwell seems like a Fox kind of guy. Puts lots of film time in, is a student of the game, very prepared, and shows the same kind of hard work that helped Basanez stick around for a few years.

Cantwell very likely has the kind of work ethic that Fox wishes Moore did. I noticed that Rip said Moore worked hard(what else would he say) but talked about him being more focused as a starter. If you read between the llines, that is coach speak for he is putting in the work, preparing and doing the little things that didn't seem as important when he didn't think he would play in a game. There is a big difference between working hard and preparing and doing all the pre-work before you actually exert yourself in practice or in games versus just letting the starter do most of the work and just showing up at practice and going through all the drills and physical skills. It is certainly understandable but if Cantwell is doing it as a backup, Moore could have done it as well.

moore=starter

clausen=backup

pike=emergency QB

cantwell=practice squad

we'll keep all four and it won't be a problem.

I'd agree, but the one possible hitch in that theory would come if Cantwell shines in preseason. A QB hungry team might take him.

I am loving the QB situation on the Panthers. Now despite how the starter plays, injuries, etc it is nice to know - for a change - that we might have a franchise QB on the roster.

Moore - Clausen - Pike - Cantwell is a refreshing thought compared to what we have had in the past =

Jake - Carr - Moore then that season Carr - Testaverde - Moore

or

Jake - Mcown - Moore

or I cant remember all the other combinations but they pretty much ALL sucked.
