Walter Nolen??

It seems Nolen is the hottest name leading into the draft.

A few new reports have him in the top 10 and a top target of Carolinas/trade up teams.

I thought people/scouts/media were sleeping on him.

One of the bigger reasons for his rise is draft people listening to this report-

https://www.clarionledger.com/story/sports/college/ole-miss/2024/08/08/ole-miss-football-pete-golding-walter-nolen-quinnen-williams-alabama/74658977007/

Quinn Williams was drafted 3rd overall. That 2019 draft is much better than this 2025 one. Nolen is thought to be a better williams. If that's the case, buckle up.....

With the current information flowing in, its starting to feel like (<insert old draft joke>) Nolen will not even make it 8.

Here's the thing for me: I don't know whether we are going to stay a base 3-4 team or go back to a 4-3 team over the next two years (especially if Evero continues to not work out).

That being said, if we are going to go with DL players at #8, I think we need to go with the new model DTs that are out there like this guy and Mason Graham. Strong, aggressive, fast movers. My reasoning is that they are fully capable of playing DE in a 3-4 and can move back to DT in a 4-3 set up just as easily.

On the other side of the equation, there's a big difference between a 3-4 Edge guy and a 4-3 DE, making that transfer difficult. It's the Brain Burns problem: quick and long works for a 3-4 Edge but he was too light for a 4-3 DE, especially in the run defense. The fact that he was on a team transitioning between the two types of defenses meant that even after the 3-4 switch was complete, he didn't have the personnel alongside him to really hit his stride.

So, if we have to go defense on the pick, make it one of the more athletic DTs in the draft, IMO.

    • Dude is screwed.  Go all Steve Wilks and win a couple more games in spite of Bryce……the org is going to keep him tied to Bryce.   You got to at some point just call games as they should even if it means losing to get rid of Bryce IMO
    • Hell no to trading up! Miss me with that talk. Stay put and see who drops. If it's not a qb so be it. But under no circumstances should they trade up. I'm against trading for one personally but im not ruling out that it may be necessary. Just grab one in the draft somewhere and let him compete in training camp and if he's not worth a backup role cut his ass and move on. The point is you don't limit your options. Stop with the long term projects if they are not showing something immediately that would warrant the investment.
    • There is a world where we host the niners in the playoffs and the best chance to beat them would be not letting Bryce throw a pass
