DeAngelo Williams won't complain about his contract

"My whole thing is I signed a five-year contract here and if the owner doesn't want to re-sign me or do a new deal, that's all him," Williams said, per Steve Reed of CarolinaGrowl.com. "I'm not going to get upset or anything like that because I knew when I signed my five-year deal that I was committed here for five years, so why put up a fuss?"

-----

"I'm a competitor and I love the game of football," Williams said. "I will let all of that other stuff take care of itself."

-----

"There are ways around it," Williams said. "It's not a hindrance anymore. There are a lot of young guys that are getting signed, [including San Francisco 49ers linebacker] Patrick Willis that are signing big-time deals. So there are ways around the 30 percent rule. But like I said I signed a five-year commitment and I can't be upset and I can't be aggravated about it because I love this great game of football. The financial part and all of that stuff that has to do with this game outside of football that will take care of itself."

Sounds to me like he's subtly hinting that he wants a new contract, but isn't going to hold out for one. He is a class act, but everyone has a breaking point. DWill could get a top 5(running back) contract with just about any team in the NFL besides a select few. Don't piss off your best players by making them wait JR.

Please, pay the man! I don't think his window is closing since his carry load has been light most of his career. He could play well til his mid 30's..He is worth giving a good contract in my eyes; would rather have a Williams then a big headed guy like Chris Johnson.

He's definitely saying something under all that. He wants a new contract.

Absolutely, but I love the fact that he isn't trying to burn any bridges by pulling a Chris Johnson. Granted, Johnson has a little more leverage than Williams.

Oh yeah, of course. I think he is handling it excellently, but I also think it's obvious he wants a new contract just judging by those statements alone.

He said exactly what I did and the same thing every player knows. If they want to do a deal with the players, the 30% rule is not that hard to work around. All of the owners should realize that using that as a poor excuse for delaying contracts will have a backlash. If owners want players to be loyal to them, they need to do the same. If they don't care, then don't expect the players to care either. Locking up a guy like Williams on a 4 year deal wouldn't be that hard and would guarantee his loyalty and hard work for the next 4 years. That would put him at 31 which is effectively his career. By putting things off the FO is creating a problem which will make it that much harder to sign all of our young players whose contracts are expiring. Frankly I imagine that contracts could be written with large incentives next year based on their being a regualr season and figure in playing bonuses which would account for a possible lockout. That wouldn't necessarily be included in the base salary (so it wouldn't be part of the 30% rule. If someone like me can figure that out so can Hurney.

    • Theilen came back and Bryce had him. Which he was lost for Andy after the first game, or am I wrong on that?    And people are so overrating most of those Bryce games. There were a couple of good ones and a very good one. Of his basically two complete very good games. That Atlanta game in that stretch and the Dallas game this year being the complete ones. Maybe I missed one but the 2023 Green Bay game was really a very good 4th quarter and a average 1st half. Maybe I missed another but that NYG Europe game was nothing to brag about yet people did. Just sayin.  I mean you can name his really nice games on one hand. Out of how many now? 33? 34? Something like that.
    • So, the goal that should not have been a goal.... https://www.nhl.com/news/carolina-hurricanes-colorado-avalanche-coach-challenge-x1595 Challenge Initiated By: Carolina Type of Challenge: Missed Game Stoppage Event – High-Sticking the Puck Result: Original call confirmed – Goal Colorado Explanation: The Situation Room supported the Referee’s call on the ice that Parker Kelly’s stick was not above the normal height of his shoulders when he contacted the puck at 15:31 of the second period (4:29 elapsed time) – 17 seconds prior to his goal. The decision was made in accordance with Rule 80.1. Penalty: 2:00 minor penalty: Delay of Game – Unsuccessful Challenge ------------------------------------------------------------ How the challenge was interpreted as a high stick challenge is beyond me. What I cannot find is what/how RBA challenged the goal and how it was reviewed as a high stick goal when Stevie Wonder could see the hand extending off Kelly's stick, essentially grabbing at the puck and it went by Freddie.
    • And the QB's below him are; Bo Nix, CJ Stroud, Spencer Rattler, Michael Penix Jr., Cam Ward, Carson Wentz, Dillon Gabriel, Geno Smith and Tua Tagovaila
