An "oops" from NBC's Ann Curry

Curry forgets to fact check her graduation address

We're pretty sure that the "Today" show fact-checks its news stories. The NBC morning show's news anchor, Ann Curry, could've used a little help in that department over the weekend.

Curry delivered a commencement address at Wheaton College in Massachussetts over the weekend, and she listed some of the school's famous alumni: Billy Graham, "60 Minutes" correspondent Lesley Stahl, film director Wes Craven and Todd Beamer, one of the heroes of United Flight 93 on 9/11. Standard graduation stuff, right?

Yeah, there was just one problem: Except for Stahl, all those people graduated from a different Wheaton College. In Illinois.

To her credit, Curry quickly apologized to the Massachussetts Wheaton in a letter.

Perhaps she could get the "Wolf Blitzer" award

Ahh graduation speech fugups.

At one of my graduations, Senator Dale Bumpers was the speaker. While he didn't confuse my school with another (he was way too busy ranting about politics and his fabulous life), he sounded like a confused, senile old man. A few of the more conservative students actually walked out.

Well, one's a evangelical school and one's a typical liberal arts school so there's a decent sized gap, but it's not the first time someone showed up to collect a paycheck at one of these things.

We just took hits off of pipes being passed around and slugs of whiskey during our commencement so if it were anything like C of C, I doubt anyone but the parents noticed.

    • There is a Grand Canyon-sized chasm between your opinion and the opinions of most former player hockey guys who do this for a living.
    • I can only imagine the **** eating grins on the committee right now. "Oh, Bama didn't deserve it? Oh, Miami didn't deserve it? Suck it, haters!" lol
    • To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.
