Is Matt Moore a starter and can the defense survive without Pepppers???

Recommended Posts

To me, every game is a meaningful game.

Games with playoff implications are more meaningful than games late in the season with nothing on the line. He did a great job late in the season playing spoiler against the Giants and Vikings. But it's yet to be seen if he can play at the same level when a playoff seed is on the line.

He'll get it done, and if not, we have a decent go to guy with Claussen. But I'm betting on Moore this year.

Moore has only played in games where he has nothing to lose. The critics remain unsure of what he is going to do when he plays in a meaningful game.

I understand that, but you could counter it by saying his opponents had everything to play for. Minnesota had a shot at home field in the NFL title game, and the Giants didn't want to lose the last game at Giants Stadium.

I'm gonna guess he's gonna have less pressure on himself this year then last since he was trying not to make a mistake most of the time during the first few games he played. I remember him saying he decided to hand the ball off against Tampa when he probably should have just thrown it.

He will definitely be more comfortable with the offense this year, so if there is any pressure it will be on the younger receivers to perform.

The beauty of this thing is that Moore just has to be a good game manager for us.

I agree with Yas that our defense will improve without Peppers around. Beason is now the unquestioned leader and we have two guys at DE that will create pressure on EVERY down.

I think Peppers is like Randy Moss in the sense that if you make things difficult for him at the start of a game, he'll shut it down.

No one will know about Moore until the season is well underway. Same for anyone on our defense. And I predict that not having to contend with wondering which Peppers would show up for any given game will only be a benefit to all involved. Pep was a freak athletically, no argument, but that didn't always translate into great things for the defense. He was consistently blocked one-on-one by TEs and RBs. Certainly, he had some monster moments for us, but consistency (and I am talking when he was healthy) was not something often associated with him. I liked Pep, but he's gone, and there's no reason to think that the team will suffer a great deal because of that.

The 1968 Baltimore Colts lost 3 Hall of Famers from the previous season (Raymond Berry, Lenny Moore, and Jim Parker), and went on to have one of the all time greatest regular seasons ever (they did lose to the Jets in SB 3). The point is such 'losses' aren't always fatal. I think if Moore doesn't turn the ball over, and if our STs are greatly improved over last season's, we'll have a good year. We don't need Johnny U in his prime out there, we just need some good fundamentals from our QB, and keeping the ball in our own hands. had Jake had half as many turnovers last year than he did, we were in the playoffs!

Oh I'm sure Charles and Brown could never match up to peppers shitty play during games that really count. When we played the Fins this past season. When the Fins had most of their starting oline out with injuries. Peppers was still getting owned by backup olineman. Yes when peppers was in his early years as a panther he was big time. But the past few years he has went down him gameplay wise. He would get owned half the time be scrubbs. Peppers was good for us early on. But those days are gone. Brayton, Johnsoon, and brown and the rest of them will do fine for us in the future. So *** peppers. He is gone. He will get owned by gross and otah this coming year when we play them. Point and match.:smilielol5:

Matt Moore hasn't played with a defense that wasn't going lights-out, and he hasn't played in games where there was true pressure to win. This has been pointed out by multiple people, multiple times. Still, a lot of people don't think this matters, they feel like he's going to be an elite QB even after opposing DCs spend the off season going over his film.

Shaun Hill's first 10 NFL games were spread over two seasons, just like Moores starts have been. Hill went 7-3, with a QB rating of 90.5 over that span. When he got the starting job in 2009, after every opposing DC spent the summer viewing film of him, he started 3-3, with a rating of 79.6. That's what real games can do to you.

Then there's Tony Romo. His first 11 NFL games were also spread over two seasons, and he went 7-4 in them, with a QB rating of 95.1. When he finally got the starting job in 2007, he starts the season 5-1, with rating of 96.0. Obviously, players in Moore's situation don't always fail.

Right now Matt Moore is 6-2 in three seasons with a QB rating of 84.5. In each of his wins, the defense played an absolutely great game. Last year, when he went 4-1, during his four wins the defense didn't give up 10 points in a single game. They gave up 20 to New England, and Moore couldn't muster more than 10 himself when he had to play catch-up.

Having a great running game is a big boon to developing a QB. But Moore is now going to be in his fourth year in the system, and developing time is over. If he doesn't start out like a guy who can carry the team when they can't get it done on the ground, and if he doesn't show signs of leadership when the game gets tight; If he doesn't look like he can carry the team on his back when the score is close and the clock is winding down, then I'm jumping off the bandwagon early. And I suspect Fox will as well. I hope it doesn't happen, because Clausen and Pike need time to develop, but I'm not sure it won't.

And by the way, Delhomme was 1-1 with a QB rating of 82 for New Orleans before he came to Carolina, but the coaches liked his intangibles. So far they've been less than impressed with Moore's, but they like his record.

Moore hasn't played in a game with true pressure to win? huh? 2007- Dallas game where we got shafted in his first start. ive posted video evidence before, and will again if need be.

do you not think this team wanted to go 8-8 bad?? if not than you shouldn't be in here. the Panthers had a HUGE will to get to .500 on the year after the playoffs were out of the picture. Do you not think the Vikings and BRETT FAVRE wanted to win on Sunday Night Football? Matt Moore played lights out. how about the Giants game? that running game that he was behind...we hes behind it again in 2010. Matt Moore has prove multiple times he can get it done when it counts. had he not be screwed in 2007, hed have 2 wins in prime time.

Ok, let's take the Dallas game. He had pressure to win, he was playing at home, and the defense surrendered 20 points. He popped a rating of 70.8 with a long of 57 yards where Smitty busted one on the outside that went for a touchdown. Take that one play away and his rating is 49.8. That's not exactly a great reaction to real pressure, but you have to give him a pass because he was a rookie.

When he beat the Seahawks that season the defense held them to 10 points. He did close out the season with an impressive win over the Buccaneers, where the offense clicked well. But in that game he did all his damage in the first half and was shut out in the second. Williams did all the work then, and brought home the victory.

Moore didn't get another chance to start until last year, and we all know how well he did. And as has been pointed out multiple times by multiple people, the defense didn't allow more than 10 points in any of his victories. Jeff Lewis could win with those numbers, especially if he had the ground game we currently enjoy.

I want Moore to succeed, but the jury's out on him. Whether he'll be another Romo or another Hill won't be known until the real games start.

You can't take away credit from Moore just for being on a good team. He was in what I would call 4 "real" games last season. The reason the team played so well is because he never turned the ball over and his passing skills were respectable enough to keep the offense in balance. In it's simplest form, Matt Moore's biggest strength is not being Jake Delhome.

All year long we were in games that Jake just threw away. The defense or running game barely ever let the team down.

Our offense is built for a game managing QB. We are always close to last in the league on passing attempts and we run the ball very well. Teams can watch all the the tape Moore has proved he doesn't suck ass and that's all we need.

Watching games from 08 we won even with Jake sucking many times. Some of our biggest blowouts were when Jake was having off days. He was way off target against the chiefs, broncos, lions, and bucs.
