Carolina Panthers GM Hurney won't be hurting for a job

I hope we sign him to an extension, because he really won't be hurting for a job for long if we let him go. Some team that needs rebuilding will hop on him as soon as the season is over and he'll build a quality team through the draft, just like he's done here.

I tend to agree with you. Even working for a racist organization such as the Panthers will have no ill effect on other organizations. In fact, he has done quite well despite not developing a non-white QB.

Oh my GOD will you all shut the fug up about this race crap? It's funny for a while, but there's a point (That point is NOW, smart ass) where it just makes me want to tear your eyebrows off and hang them from your piercings.

K, end of rant.

Keep Hurney. The "Fire Hurney/Fox/Meeks" group is a bunch of knee-jerk assholes who happened to 'fall' on the shampoo bottle last night. The very second something doesn't go perfect, they immediately call for someone's job as if they could do it better.

Anyone arguing that Hurney is not good in the draft is mistaken. Almost all of our starters are players that we drafted. We have a very low percentage of free-agents on the team and a very high percentage of our own drafted players. You're bad at drafting when you can't find contributors in the draft and you have to find your players in free agency. That's not us.

IMO he has hit on the draft more then he has missed. He is also good at finding bottom dollar FAs that can start. If only he was not a racist.

I gotta disagree with this. Keary Colbert and Dwayne Jarrett have been busts. Eric Shelton is a huge bust. Not to mention we gave up way to much to get Armanti and Everette Brown. His brainic idea to give Jake 40million after having 6 turnovers, now we have to pay him 12 million this year while he will be playing against us. His 1 year brilliant plans with David Carr and Keyshawn Johnson looks like they really worked out. Also, we let Moose give 3 of his best years to Chicago, as well as trading Kris Jenkins for Gary Barnidge and Godfrey. I dont think that has worked out in our favor.

Colbert and Jarrett were busts, yes. But for every bust we've had, we've had twice as many low-round guys who turned out to be awesome picks. It's also way too early to tell if "we gave up way too much" for Edwards and Brown. Let's see how they do after two or three seasons in the NFL. I have high hopes for both.

I agree that the Delhomme debacle wasn't smart, but this year is uncapped so it's not hurting us in any way to pay him.

David Carr sucked, but it didn't cost us much to have him here. We let him go quickly rather than hold on to him and pay him more. Johnson actually played pretty well when he was here, and also didn't cost much. Neither were big mistakes.

Malcontent Kris Jenkins for Barnidge and Godfrey? I'll take that. Barnidge is doing very well for us and has the potential to be an extremely dangerous receiving TE. Godfrey has started for us since he got here, was a key component of one of the best pass defenses in the league last season, and looks like he could be a hell of a safety.

Hurney is legit.

I hope Hurney and Fox stay past this year. It's hard to imagine that Jerry Richardson would not offer Hurney and Fox a new contracts even if 2010 is a subpar season.Remember it was Richardson that forced Hurney/Fox to release so many veteran players.

In my opinion, Fox and Hurney are strong at what they do! It would be a monumental mistake for the Panthers to let either one of them go! I agree with Tom Sorensen, and feel he is exactly right regarding stability!

The Panthers like to use the Pittsburgh Steelers as a role model,a team that's only had in the neighborhood of 5 coach's during there entire existence. This should show how important it is to maintain stability in the front office .

Not as good.

Payton hides his horrible defensive draftings.

What are you talking about? He was the GM of those Bill teams that made it to four straight Super Bowls. He was also GM of this very team and helped take an expansion Panthers and get them to the Championship Game. He's very good at drafting and gets people that fit their schemes.
