Gazette say's "Moore Starts"

Recommended Posts

Barring an injury or a "mental meltdown of Jake Delhomme proportions," Matt Moore is expected to open the season as the Panthers' starting quarterback.

There's no open competition for the starting job. The real race to watch is the primary backup spot after Hunter Cantwell held off Jimmy Clausen throughout spring practices. Though we do expect Clausen to open the season second on the depth chart, it's no longer a foregone conclusion.

I don't think that is much of a prediction at all. Moore is the starter. It would take some major for Clausen to start. An injure or HUGE meltdown is the only way Clausen starts. No one should want Clausen to start. The ideal path is the Aaron Rodgers path to a starting gig.

I have no problem bringing Clausen in slowly, we need our benches to be warm. The bigger question is the number 3 QB. Tony Pike wouldnt last on the PS so is he guaranteed a spot even though I thought he sucked in college. Great measurables but bad arm strength. I say Cantwell back on PS to see if Pike can develop.

How about "baring" how either perform in preseason.

I love how people are making predictions for the starting roster when Clausen hasn't thrown one snap in an actual pro game, preseason or not.

I'm pulling for Moore myself because I think he deserves it, but may the best man win and may they both challenge each other make one another better.

    • Well, they're both in the same league (if you will). During preseason, Fitz went 3/3 & Sauls went 5/6, but of course Sauls was 4/4 last night (including one 50+). Both were Lou Groza Award finalists. I believe Fitz made two 55+ yarders last season, while Sauls led the nation with three. Fitz was 13/13 (💯) while Sauls was 21/24 (87.5). Fitz was a 3rd-Team AP All-American, while Sauls was a PFF All-American.  Career-wise, Fitz was 58/74 (78.4), while Sauls was 52/64 (81.3). I wish that I could see the attempts and knew the depth of yardage. I wish that we could compare practice kicks during their training camps, but we can't. Maybe someone with a PFF/CFF account can give that Basically it's just a matter of belief I guess. Seeing dude knock down four FGs and go perfect during a pressure-filled game for him is damned impressive if you ask me. I don't believe that Fitzgerald could do that.  That being said, I'd have to know more. I will say that it may be worth mentioning that we seem to like PFF this year and Sauls being a PFF All-American may be notable. Now that being said, the Panthers may not be even considering Sauls.
    • Ive said it 1000x times on here.  Our 2025 season will be dictated by the first 4 games.  poo the bed there and lose all confidence and momentum, we win 5 games maybe.  Go 2-2, 3-1 we got a look at 7/8 wins
    • I basically made almost the exact predictions on a phone call with a buddy about 3 weeks ago. I really do expect Evero gone before the seasons end, Young to just not able to get over the hump enough and DC to head into next season on a VERY hot seat.
