Gazette think's Jarrett may be released

Recommended Posts

Dwayne Jarrett could "easily" be released before the season opener if he doesn't show improvement in August, according to the Gaston Gazette.

It's what we've suspected all along. Jarrett is currently penciled in as the starter solely because of his experience edge on Brandon LaFell and Armanti Edwards. He's been a flat-out bust for three years, even falling behind Kenneth Moore last season. If he was ever on your late-round fliers list, it's time to cross him off.

If for some reason he is released, who do you go with?

Smith, LaFell, and Edwards already have their roster spots, then you have the guys that are the front runners in Jarrett, Wright, Gettis, and Moore. Following those guys you have camp fodder in Martin, Jackson, Guy, and Young.

Ok, so who do you want to see on the roster and who do you think will be on the roster?

Try to limit your list to five to six players.

DJ is what a year older then BL and AE with 3 years on them as a pro and he is making nothinnothing this season... DJ will start week 1....me posting on myz phone.

I do understand that, and I'm not as critical of Jarrett as many on here, but at the same time if we keep him we may be cutting a better athlete. If Jarrett is cut, it will be because we see more potential in another player. Sure, that player may not live up to his potential, but at least he hasn't proven otherwise.

Right now, my gut is telling me to go with this line-up

1. Steve Smith

2. Dwayne Jarrett

3. Brandon LaFell

4. Armanti Edwards

5. David Gettis

6. Wallace Wright

Now I know 6 wide outs is a little much, but probably receives this spot based on his ability to play special teams unlike or better than other players on the bubble such as cornerback; C.J. Wilson, CB; Brian Witherspoon, DE; Hilee Taylor, DT; Nick Hayden, DT; Ed Johnson, DE; Corvey Irvin; DT; Derek Landri, RB; Mike Goodson, S; Aaron Francisco; and S; Marcus Hudson.

Now, I know most of these guys can play special teams, but in my opinion Wallace Wright is one of the better special team's players in the league. If I had to guess I would say Wright makes the team and Hayden gets cut.

    • You could say that-- but if we don't need a starting OT this year, why would you draft a flawed one that is not going to play? (We are coming from different underlying assumptions and perspectives--I see your argument and don't disagree with the premise) Your thinking is based on the assumption that an OT for the future is more important than immediate needs at other positions, or that we can meet other needs in later rounds even if we take the OT in round 1.  I do not think there is but 1 OT worthy of a first-round grade---they are mocked based on need and demand--if we do not have a need for a starter right now, a team at 18 may grab a T that is the 33rd best player--worth it if you have no starting T, but not if you have a starter.  So just because they are mocked around the middle of the first it does not mean that the players are good values--teams get desperate.  QBs are a great example.  Simpson may be worth it in round 1 for the Cardinals, but not the Jets, because they have Geno Smith.  Sure, they will need a QB by next year, but taking Simpson is a reach. I do not see our need, with 2 starters (Walker and Moton) and another possibly returning by the end of the season enough to justify ranking OT over positions like Safety, Will LB--I do not think we replaced A Shawn Robinson (We gonna put a NT out there?  Wharton (280lbs)?  So do we reach in round 1 for a player who may not play much or do we get a Will LB that can cover?  A deep free safety?  A quality center? A playmaking TE?  A DT to replace Robinson?  A wide receiver to balance the secondary?  Long term, if the right player was there, you would be right.  Short term, OT is a luxury at this point, in my view.
    • Put Huey P Newton on the helmet. With his AK.
    • We arent switching. Evero is 3-4 to the core. Given how 3-4 has been a noticeable characteristic of top defenses recently and we have drafted and signed players fir it  I dont know why anyone would think that's a good idea
