I'm going to approach this season the way I do Will Ferrell movies.

ZERO expectations. I mean it. With Will's movies I know I'm not going to get a Brando or Depp like performance. Stunts like Jackie Chan. Depth like Hanks or twists like M Night.

I check that at the door, get a small popcorn(no butter) and a Cherry Icee Slush and party on rock star.

So ima(as the young kids say) gonna do the same with the Panthers. They cleaned house, well by God so am I. New slate for me too.

I'm even gonna have to buy a program for the first time since 96 just see see who these cats are and even learn their bio's cold. Forget coming up with a nickname for the D Line. This guy just wants to be able to name a guy playing NT.

Do yourself a favor and join me on my popcorn movie quest for this season and ride the wave of zero expectations and tons of fun.

Think about those roadtrips where you didn't have things all planned out and junk. You just got in your car and drove. And you had a friggin blast.

2010 Panther's Football, Just Play Football baby.

I don't feel like I can get into that kind of mindset. I can get into the mindset knowing that if we suffer some serious injuries that I won't get mad at the losses knowing that we'll have some pretty modest backups.

I feel like are starters are experienced and talented enough that we aren't in a rebuilding year.

If the season is anything like this dialogue we will be undefeated.

Ron Burgundy: Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

Veronica Corningstone: No, there's no way that's correct.

Ron Burgundy: I'm sorry, I was trying to impress you. I don't know what it means. I'll be honest, I don't think anyone knows what it means anymore. Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago.

Veronica Corningstone: Doesn't it mean Saint Diego?

Ron Burgundy: No. No.

Veronica Corningstone: No, that's - that's what it means. Really.

Ron Burgundy: Agree to disagree.

Movies like Anchorman and Step Brothers push the "stupid" envelope to the max, you can't help but laugh.

I loved Leslie Nielson movies as a kid but you knew those were stupid. Will Ferrel Movies are set up like standard comedy which makes the stupid so much more obvious.

I'm with you, dude. I think there's something strangely liberating about just sitting down to catch a game with no expectations for a change. And let's face it - win, lose or draw, it's football! Thank God the season's finally here! Sitting down at the stadium or with good friends, turning up a few cold ones, grilling up some burgers or steaks, wearing your team's colors and talking trash whether it's based in fact and reality or not - does it get any better than that? And even if your team loses, there's always next week - at least until mid January. There'll be plenty of time to fret over performances and the win loss columns later. Right now, I'm just pumped for football again.

    • Maybe, but I also wonder if having almost an entirely different group of receivers than he did last year has a little bit to do with it.  Our starters against Atlanta in the last game last year were Thielen, Coker, and Legette with Moore coming in.    Legette is struggling, and might be gone after this season if things don't turn around. Coker is out, and Thielen is gone.  TMac is a big improvement, but still a rookie.  Renfrow and Young just look out of sync.  If they can get in sync and Coker comes back, we could see an improvement.
    • Will address each comment separately ... "5 Year Hole": If that happens, it's no different than where we were anyways when Mack refused to retire 2-3 years ago.  BB may not work out, but at least the administration swung for the fences.  Who else would you have hired in mid December last year?  Think about how bad our talent is now, and then multiply that by 10 with what some low level assistant we plucked from wherever would've been able to bring in with no time and no budget. "Sticking Around / Son as HC": I have to imagine if BB quits before any success, that wouldn't bode well for his son sticking around.  The fan base, alumni and administration aren't going to want to be reminded every Saturday when we are getting beat by William & Mary that there is a Belichick on the sideline.  "Pivot": In my opinion, there are only two pivots to make if Belichick doesn't work.  1) Dump a truckload into football NIL, although not sure that's even feasible or 2) Take all that football NIL, dump it into being a dominant basketball school again, and relevant in football once every ten years with the luck of getting a Howell or Maye who are in state Tarheel kids.
    • They are also worried because they haven’t been able to get their run game going which is how you manipulate our defense. If it’s just Drake Maye against Evero’s cover 3 all day they won’t break 20 points. Their defense is also much worse than Atlanta and Jacksonville (not quite as bad as Arizonas)
